The worst part of being an exemplary student? Getting picked for the job of babysitter.

No, you don’t want to show some freshman how to get around College. You’ve got assignments to finish and deadlines to catch and if you’re falling behind on your reading because you had to hold someone’s hand, who’s going to hold your hand?

“Kiyoshi Teppei?” You ask, mouth turning dry the moment he gets up from his chair. He’s a giant. He’s going to crush you with one hand. 

You blink down at your paper, the bare minimum of information on your sheet. 

“You’re eighteen?” You ask, unable to keep the disbelief out of your voice.

“Sorry,” he smiles, “I know I look younger.” 

He doesn’t. He looks like he could be passing for thirty. He’s probably buying Soju for younger guys, pretending to be their father when the cops call.

“Well, follow me,” you croak out, knees turning into jelly when he smiles down on you like that.

Thirty minutes in you’re starting to believe less and less that he’s barely turned eighteen.

Kiyoshi walks like a grandpa, hands folded behind his back. 

He smiles up at the birds and down at the flowers and when a particularly rowdy freshman runs past you, he lets out a low whistle and calls the guy a “rascal” of all things.

“So, uh…” You look down at your notes, “What are you going to study?” 

“Sports education,” Kiyoshi explains with a smile. “It’s important to look out for the next generation, don’t you think?”

“Eh…” You start, but you don’t know what to say.

“What are you studying?” Kiyoshi asks, eyes crinkling at the corner as he smiles with his whole face.

“Medicine.” That’s an easy answer. “I’ve always wanted to go that direction, but I’m still a little undecided which direction to go into.”

“Ah?” 

“Well, there’s sports medicine, which I’m currently most interested in, but I also think veterinary medicine is important. I don’t think I could work with children. While it can give you a lot, if the cases are sad, they are very sad, you know?”

He nods. His smile is warm and inviting. Your lips move on their own.

“Hungry?” Kiyoshi points at the little bistro. You blink, check the time on your watch, and flinch back in shame. 

“I’m so sorry!” You rush out, “I didn’t mean to blabber this much. You barely saw anything yet! If we turn left now, we can still catch-”

“Or…” he interrupts you softly, “We can get something to eat first and discuss some of my questions. I’m sure you would prefer doing this introduction in a few short, separate times instead of all at once, right?”

“Well,” you start. Kiyoshi opens the door to the bistro for you, waves his large hand to invite you in. You don’t really have an argument against it.

“Any more questions?” You ask, popping another fry in your mouth.

Kiyoshi’s leaning back in his chair, hands folded behind his head. He’s whistling something, eyes almost closed. If you didn’t know better, you’d think he’s falling asleep.

“Are you free on Saturday?” He asks and you blink, a little surprised.

“I am, why? Did I forget anything?”

“No, you went over everything in minute detail, I appreciate that. But I wanted to ask you out.”

You halt, another fry halfway to your mouth. 

“You’re asking me out?” You ask.

Kiyoshi smiles. “I am.”

“Why?”

“Why not?”

You cock your head to the side and muster him. He’s not one to make jokes about this kind of thing, at least that’s what you gathered from the five times you’ve met so far.

Kiyoshi’s good at listening, even better at asking the questions that make you start talking. He probably knows you better than you know him and you did think you got him figured out already.

“Why would I date you?” You ask, try to sound more confident than you feel.

His knee presses against yours. You doubt it’s a coincidence, not after sitting close like this for thirty minutes without ever touching. His smile is soft and warm, giving you the (wrong) impression that he’s slow on the uptake, on thinking this through.

You should have figured out sooner that he’s pretty sly if he wants to be. 

“I’ll buy you fries?” He poses it like a question. You press your knee against his and his smile turns mischievous, if only for a heartbeat.

Kiyoshi Teppei is not the fool he likes to pretend he is. There’s a depth to him that makes you want to know more.

You nod, pop the now cold fry into your mouth and grin.

“Fries and a milkshake, please.”

“Honey?” Teppei’s large frame swallows all the light and you blink, look up from the book you’d been reading in. He’s towering over your bed like the giant he is, a strawberry-themed Squishmallow in his gigantic hands.

“What?”

“It’s time for bed.”

You blink again and check the clock. Okay, yes, it is pretty late. But you only have like, twenty pages in this chapter, and-

“If we go to bed now, we can still cuddle before you fall asleep…” Kiyoshi explains, voice slow and careful as if he’s just now pondering it. But he’s a sly one, your boyfriend, and you’re pretty sure that Squishmallow isn’t dancing in front of you because he just picked it up at random.

“I guess I could be convinced,” you start, squealing when he picks you up with ease. You don’t flail in his hold, not when he’s pulled you this close, your nose digging into his hair now, your chest probably smothering him. 

“Okay, okay, we can snuggle,” you agree, laughing now that you’re in his arms. “Jeez, you could have just asked.”

You sense the pinch before you feel it. You can’t help but giggle, slinging your arms around him as he puts you back down, pulling him with you as best as you can.

You can read more in the morning, cuddling Teppei is more important right now.

there’s a pause.

“i see a bitch, i call a bitch.”

“well, i see a virgin who struck out, so…” you can practically hear the adorable smile on your boyfriend’s face.

and your boyfriend walks out of the bar.

Dry leaves crunch under your feet as you make your way up the small path in the darkness.

Usually, nothing could get you up a hill like that at this late hour, not even the promise of delicious food and a drink or two. Okay, maybe, but only if the food’s really good.

“Careful now,” you hear and you look down at your feet again, try to aim your flashlight a little better at the pebbles trying to trip you.

“Teppei-”

“No,” there’s a smile in his voice you don’t need to see. “I’m not telling you where we’re going.”

“But what if I need to pee?”

“Look around,” he moves his arm, almost pushing you into the hillside. “No one’s going to see, you can pee wherever.”

“Gross.”

He laughs and starts moving again, muttering instructions under his breath.

Just when you’re about ready to turn around and call it a day - or rather, a night - Teppei stops.

“We’re here.”

Here looks just like everything else you’ve passed before.

“Where?”

Teppei laughs and slips his backpack off. “On top of the hill, dummy.”

“I’m not a dummy,” you complain. “You’re the dummy for forcing me up a hill at almost midnight.”

“Oh, but it will be worth it,” he promises, pulling a blanket out of his backpack and putting it on the ground. “Sit.”

The blanket is followed by a take-out container that you eagerly take.

Your favorite snacks blink back at you and while they are only lukewarm now, they’ve never tasted better.

Teppei settles next to you while you feast, accepting a few bites when you offer them. 

“So you got me up this hill,” you start again but Teppei shushes you, pulling you close before pointing upwards.

“What?”

“The moon,” he whispers softly into your ear. “Look at it.”

You do and it takes your breath away.

The sky is clear tonight and here, away from the bright lights of the city, the moon looks almost close enough to touch. Stars are glittering in the sky around it, like diamonds on black velvet.

Teppei’s chest vibrates with muffled laughter and he presses a kiss against your temple.

“You said you love the moon. So I had to try and give it to you.”

“It’s beautiful.”

“Yeah,” he nods, his chin resting on top of your head. “It is.”

You sit like that for a while, quiet, taking it all in.

But it’s late and the week is catching up to you and you yawn, sinking further into Teppei.

He laughs. “I’m sorry for keeping you awake a little longer, but I have a question to ask.”

“No,” you grumble, “I’m not hiking up another hill with you.”

“Not even a figurative hill?”

You furrow your brows. “A figurative hill? What are you talking about?”

You turn to look at him, surprised to find him pulled away.

“Excuse me for not getting down on one knee,” he points out, “but my doctor kinda forbid me doing that.”

He opens a little velvet box, revealing a beautiful ring.

“Will you marry me? And walk through life with me, through all the ups and downs, the hills and valley’s?”

“Only if you keep bringing snacks along,” you tease him, before taking his hand. “You’re such a sap. Of course, I’ll marry you.”

The moon smiles down at you when he kisses you, a gentle face in the dark sky.

Teppei has always been a bit odd, which, you have to admit, makes loving him awfully hard sometimes. Not feeling wise, of course – it is easy to fall in love with him. You did in a matter of days, which is quite embarrassing to admit.

You've never been a believer in love at first sight. It was cheesy and unrealistic, and you lived your whole life in the belief that anyone who said otherwise was delusional. How can you feel love – which is without a doubt the most complicated and powerful feeling a living being can feel – so quickly? Well, leave it to Teppei Kiyoshi to be the exception that proves the rule.

He didn't do anything special, just being himself, which is, naturally, already out of this world. That tall dummy, too good for his own good, always knew how to get what he wanted out of people.

And what Teppei has always desired from you, is for you to let him be your man. "Hm? Isn't it obvious?" He tilts his head.

You're slightly pissed; no dummy, it isn't obvious! Teppei's mind never works in normal ways, so what may be a given to him is only that: a given to him only.

"Cute little thing that pouts for me" he mutters, lips taunting yours before he pulls you into a kiss.

You hum, melting in the sweet honey of his lips, the way he knows where to grab you, his touch soft and firm at the same time, while you instinctively part your lips for him. You can't even utter a thought at the way his warm tongue glides other yours; and here you are, nothing but a puddle of love for Teppei Kiyoshi.

"It's you. You're what makes me genuinely happy."

His seriousness is almost funny – Teppei has a knack for being serious in the oddest moments. But this time, you can't help the pounding in your chest at his words. Sleeping with that giant teddy bear is an experience, to say the least

See, he's a 100% a hugger

He cannot fall asleep without having an arm wrapped around you

Which is cute, most of the time

Except that he sometimes forgets how big he is so he ends up suffocating you

But you just have to shake him lightly to tell him so it's fine

I feel like he snores but faintly, it's a cute little hum, you know?

He's also the kind to wait for you to be asleep before he sleeps

Just because he wants to make sure that you're resting

And if you ever wake up at night, he'll be up too, checking up on you

You have to constantly tell him that it's nothing, like you're just going to the bathroom or getting a glass of water

Which means that he is likely to go to sleep before you and wake up before you

He's usually a sound sleeper, which is why it never bothers him that you get in bed after him

I don't think he snores, and I don't think he moves a lot either

He generally finds the most comfortable position and the one that's the best for his back and then he'll spend the night like this

If you come in with the intention of cuddling, he will gladly change position

When he wakes up, he sometimes look at you sleep for a little while

Forever? // Kiyoshi Teppei x Reader

"Where are you taking me, love?" Asks the beautiful boy as you focus on the road.

"Told ya I wanna take you on a road trip now that I have my licence" you reply.

You can feel his gaze on you, which makes you smile a little. He's definitely onto you, but it's more entertaining to act like you're still able to surprise him. For all the time that you've been together, you've never been able to outsmart him. Yet, when you met him for the first time, you wouldn't suspect him to be such an observer. At first glance, Teppei looks like a giant dummy. He simply smiles and laughs, sometimes being quite literal, which gives him the biggest himbo vibe. But then, you learn to know him, and you realise that there is no moment where the wheels in his brain don't work. There is always a thought brewing, and unbeknownst to most, his gentle eyes are shaper than they seem.

The first time he outsmarted you, you were left speechless. He just casually had a reflection that you yourself wouldn't come up with, unless you were given months to think about it. And at that very instant, you looked at him in a whole new light. You wouldn't say that was the moment you fell for him; that was something that happened gradually. But it was certainly a first step towards it, and to this day you are sure that you are the first one who has fallen in love in your couple.

"The sun's about to set" remarks your boyfriend.

You take a look at the orange tint of the sky; it's hard not to be distracted by it. You've always loved sunsets, but lately, you've rarely got the time to appreciate them.

"I love summers, it's sunny til late."

"I can tell that much, since you're always depressed in winter. That's going to do you good, these few months of sun."

"And I'm gonna spend all of them with you" you say, briefly diverting your eyes from the road to look at him.

Teppei has a radiant smile, the kind that you can easily notice from far away. You cuss under your breath. It's so hard to stay focused on the streets when he is right here, next to you! You're still a new driver, you shouldn't make an offense because you got distracted by your handsome boyfriend. You fight with yourself mentally. The urge to stop on the side road and give him a big kiss is hard to control; but you have something else planned for the both of you, and it requires some more time of you resisting him.

Thankfully, there is just a few more minutes of driving before you reach your destination. At this point, you know for sure that Teppei has a clear idea where you are bringing him. The way there is easily recognizable; the small convenience store that you've passed earlier, the road going upwards, different trees adorning the sideroad. Despite knowing that your surprise isn't one anymore, you still feel your heart pounding, anticipating the way the brunette will react once you reach the spot.

You finally stop the car, once you arrive exactly where you want. The two of you get out of the car, soft wind kissing your skin. You walk nervously towards Teppei, hands locked behind your back.

"I figured you'd love watching the sunset with me here, on the hill."

He looks at you, mouth slightly open. He looks genuinely pleased by what you've planned for him, which makes you blush. As far as you are concerned, it's nothing impressive. You've just wanted to watch the sunset with your boyfriend. It isn't the most exciting surprise, not to mention that he's known all along that this is what you had in mind.

"You're really too good to me" he simply says, arms pulling you into a hug.

"Am I?" You chuckle against his chest. "It's nothing much, though."

He laughs softly, landing a kiss on your forehead as he looks at the view. The whole city is painted in shades of pink and orange, and your own face is also shaped differently by the last rays of sun. To him, you are the real spectacle here. And he feels that way everytime he looks at you.

"As long as you are with me, I'm always having fun. And that's all that counts."

You blush furiously, diverting your gaze towards the view so you don't have to face these tender brown eyes that make you melt. Teppei is so blunt with his declaration of love, saying things like that so casually, like these words are meant to be said all the time.

"Glad you like it... I guess?" You finally say.

"I definitely do, I love sunsets."

"They're so pretty, I can watch them forever" you let out all dreamy.

It's true, you can watch the sky for hours without being bored. Nothing is as purely wonderful to you like seeing the infinite above you change over the course of the day, painting itself and the world in thousand of shades. It's a work of art.

"I can watch you forever" you hear Teppei say beside you.

You look at him, at lost for words. How can you respond to that, anyway? He simply smiles at you, like he always does. A pure, honest smile. A smile full of love. He clearly doesn't care if his words are romantic, or cheesy, or maybe too much of this or that. To him, it's the truth in all its simplicity. He wraps his arm around your waist to pull you towards him. The last rays give a golden glow to his face, making him look like a dreamy sight. The moment feels surreal, but when you feel your heart beating in your chest, the reality of things get to you. You aren't dreaming.

"Forever?" You repeat, still looking at him.

"Forever."
