❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ────── ❖ ── ✦ ─
You sat on your couch hugging a pillow, curled up in a ball in your oversized hoodie. Normally this would be a perfect lazy Saturday vibe if you weren’t bawling your eyes out over your ex.It was torture. His memory was carved into everything in your apartment. From the coffee mug he always used, the blanket you both once fought over, even the candle on the table that he gifted you. Every little thing felt like it was suffocating you.
The living room was a disaster. Tissues everywhere, half-eaten bags of chips scattered on the table, and you, sitting there like a ghost. It had only been a week since the breakup. Meaning three things.
Fresh. Raw. Painful.
When your phone buzzed faintly, you snatched it up with trembling hands, praying it was him, apologizing and asking you to come back.
But no.
It was a text from your best friend, Taiga Kagami.
Taigar 🐯: Hey u good?
You sniffled, thumbs hesitating before you finally typed back.
You: Well obv not…
A few seconds passed.
Taigar 🐯: Alright. Lmk if u need anything.
You just liked the message and let the phone drop onto the couch. Honestly, you did need something. You needed someone to burn your apartment down and fly you out to a different country. Maybe even a different planet. But the energy it would take to even book a flight yet alone move felt impossible. Instead, your eyes drifted to the window. The night sky was clear and still, and for once, the idea of a quiet walk sounded like the only thing that might clear your head. You grabbed a tote bag and stuffed it with the essentials: AirPods, wallet, keys. Then you slipped on your Crocs without socks and stepped out into the night. You scrolled through TikTok as you walked, intention to find a sad playlist, only to freeze when you saw him. Your ex had just reposted something four minutes ago.
“When you finally get rid of the one thing holding you back.”
And another..
“Me bc I finally have more time to hang with my friends and play video games.”
Your chest caved in. You wanted to curse him out text him and just ask him why the fuck is he doing this, but the words pierced you instead. Sure it's just a repost, but come on. Why does he always find a way to make you look like such a problem? You sank down on a nearby bench and buried your face in your hands.
“Just let it out, Y/N,” you whispered. “If you let it out now, it’ll be okay later.”
And then you broke.
Everything came pouring out. The anger, the heartbreak, the frustration and you sobbed until your entire body shook.
“Why does he act like I was… the biggest burden in his life?” you choked out between breaths. “I tried so hard to love him right, and now he’s out there telling everyone he’s free of me…”
You felt so unlovable in that moment.
The bench shifted suddenly due to another person sitting.
You didn’t look up. Your hair was a mess, your face was wet, and you didn’t want anyone seeing you like this.
But then a warm, solid arm wrapped awkwardly around your shoulders.
Your head jerked up, startled.
“Kagami?” you whispered.
He was sitting there in sweats and a hoodie, eyes narrowed, to anyone he'd look annoyed, but you knew he was full of worry.
“W-what are you doing here?” you stammered, swiping at your tears as if that would hide anything.
“Relax,” he muttered, his voice low. “Checked your location. Saw you were out here by yourself this late. Didn’t want your dumbass getting kidnapped or something.”
"I’m literally 20, Kagami. I can take care of myself.”
“Yeah, sure, you're sitting on a bench at midnight, crying your eyes out in Crocs.. You’re basically the perfect target for creeps right now.”
You opened your mouth to argue but… okay, he wasn’t wrong.
“You could’ve at least told me you were coming,” you muttered, looking down.
“Would you have even picked up?” he shot back, raising a brow.
You stayed quiet.
“That’s what I thought,” he sighed. Then, with a little tug, he pulled you into his side so your head rested against his shoulder.
“You’re such a pain in the ass,” he grumbled, but his arm stayed there around you, making you feel secure. Since you were in the comfort of someone you trusted, you broke all over again.
The sobs came harder now, muffled into the sleeves of your hoodie .
“Why?!” Your voice cracked. “Why is he acting like I was just… holding him back? Like I was some annoyi-"
“Stop,” Kagami interrupted. Your head snapped up, eyes puffy and glossy.
“Was I really that hard to deal-"
“No,” he cut you off, his voice firmer this time. “Not even close.”
You stared at him, sniffling softly. He finally looked at you, brows drawn tight like he was annoyed at the entire situation annoyed at your ex, annoyed at how you’d been made to feel.
“Yeah, you piss me off sometimes,” he admitted bluntly. “But you’re also one of the most lovable people I know. And probably the realest thing in his fake ass life.”
Your lips trembled into a small smile despite the tears streaking your face.
“Really?” you asked softly.
He nodded without hesitation, holding your gaze for a moment. “Yeah. Really.”
“Stop crying already,” he mumbled. “You’re making me feel like I’m bad at this comforting crap.”
You let out a weak laugh, brushing at your damp cheeks. “I'll stop crying if you cook me ramen."
“Alright,” he said “if that’ll make you stop, I’ll do it.”
After a quick stop at the nearby grocery store to grab everything he insisted was “essential” for the perfect comfort ramen, you both ended up heading back to your apartment. Now, you sat perched on a stool at the kitchen counter, chin resting on your arms as you watched Kagami work. He stood at the stove, sleeves shoved up, knife moving with precise motions as he prepared the vegetables. You’d always admired how naturally talented he was at cooking. Honestly, Kagami was the last person anyone would ever expect to be a good cook. With his hotheaded personality, most people would assume he lived off of takeout or instant meals. But Kagami went beyond expectation. He always did. It made sense, though. The guy ate like he had a bottomless pit for a stomach, knowing how to cook was survival for him.
“Yo,” Kagami called out suddenly, distracting you from your thoughts. “Soup’s done. Go get the drinks.” You blinked at him, then nodded and got off the stool, heading toward the fridge. You grabbed two glasses and dropped a couple of ice cubes in each before setting them on the counter. Kagami grabbed the soda, pouring for both of you.
Finally, the two of you sat down side by side at the kitchen counter, steaming bowls of ramen in front of you."I could never thank you enough for cooking ramen this good for me at…” You squinted across the room at the clock, chopsticks hovering in midair. “At 2:39 in the morning!” Kagami snorted through a mouthful of noodles, not even looking up. “You’re acting like I don’t stay up this late all the time anyway.”
“Yeah, but you’re usually gaming or watching basketball games, not… doing this.” You gestured to the bowl of ramen.
He shrugged like it was nothing, swallowing his bite. “It’s just ramen."
As you ate your ramen, you couldn’t help but think back to one of the moments with your ex where you’d cooked ramen together in your tiny kitchen. The memory came at you without warning, and the tears immediately brimmed in your eyes.
Before you could even wipe them away, you heard Kagami’s stool scrape against the floor as he jumped up. “W–what? What happened?!” His eyes wide with panic. “Is the ramen too spicy? Damn it, I knew I put too much chili oil-"
You quickly shook your head, your voice cracking as you interrupted him. “No, Taiga… the ramen’s perfect.”
He froze, still hovering over you.
“Then why are you crying again?!” he demanded, sounding almost desperate now.
You set your chopsticks down with a shaky sigh. “Because…” Your shoulders trembled as you stared down at the bowl. “I just don’t get why every single thing...even the things I eat makes me think about him.”
Kagami went quiet for a moment, his fists curling at his sides. You could see the way his jaw flexed like he wanted to punch something but didn’t know where to aim.
He crouched slightly so you were eye level.
“That’s… more normal than you think, you know. It just means your feelings were real. Shows your love was… true, or whatever.”
He hesitated for half a second before reaching out to pat your head lightly.
“I-I promise…” He looked off to the side, cheeks faintly red. “I’ll try to get you to do more new stuff. Eat new foods, go new places… so you can start making new memories with new things, alright?”
For some reason that made your heart flutter. You didn't even understand why.
“Taiga…” you whispered softly.
He immediately tensed up. “W-what?! Don’t look at me like I just said something cheesy, okay? I’m just… I don’t wanna see you cry like this..especially over that dumbass..”
You immediately turned your stool towards him and jumped to hug him. His embrace was all you needed at the moment.
“Wha-hey!” Kagami’s voice cracked, arms flailing for a second before he hesitantly hugged you back. “There… uh, there, cry all you need to,” he mumbled, one large hand patting your back awkwardly. “You gonna eat anymore?” he asked after a beat, still holding you close, voice quiet.
You sniffled and shook your head against his chest. To your shock, Kagami sat down, pulling you with him, and without so much as a warning, lifted you straight onto his lap.
Your eyes widened. “Wha-Taiga-"
“Shut up, I’m trying not to spill the damn noodles,” he muttered, not even looking at you as he adjusted his grip. He kept one arm loosely around your waist, balancing the bowl with his other hand as he started finishing the rest of your ramen and his own.
You didn’t let go. You didn’t even know why. Maybe it was the exhaustion or the wave of emotions, but Kagami made you feel… safe. Like you could breathe again after all that suffocation
“You good?” he asked once he’d set the empty bowls aside, glancing down at you
“Yep…” you mumbled sleepily, the warmth of his chest and the rhythm of his breathing making your eyelids heavy. Honestly, Kagami was so comfortable you might have just dozed off right then and there.
He noticed immediately. “Oi… you’re gonna pass out sitting like that,” he muttered, cheeks faintly pink as he looked at you slumping against him. And then, before you could protest, Kagami shocked you once again he stood up and effortlessly scooped you into his arms. Before you can even say anything.
“Don't talk, you’re tired,” he said tightening his hold so you didn’t slip. He carried you down the hall with no issue at all, like you weighed nothing, which… yeah, shouldn’t be surprising. Have you seen how this man was built? He was practically sculpted like some kind of Greek god, broad shoulders, toned arms, solid muscle everywhere. When he reached your bedroom, Kagami gently set you down on the bed and even tucked the blanket around you.
“…You ever considered being a dad?” you asked suddenly. The man froze in place, cheeks going bright red. “W-what?! Why the hell are you asking that?!”
You just shrugged, your sleepy smile making his heart stutter. “You honestly seem like the perfect dad because of how you took care of me. Your future wife’s gonna be lucky, Taigarrr…” you teased, stretching out the nickname. “Don’t say crap like that right now!” Kagami snapped. “Whyyy not?” you teased, dragging the words out just to watch him squirm. “B-because it’s-I don’t KNOW, OKAY?!” he blurted. You laughed softly and patted the other side of the bed. “Come lay with me, man. I need to vent right now.” He hesitated for a moment, glaring at you like he wanted to argue, but the look in your eyes must’ve done him in. He huffed out a sharp breath and climbed in on the other side of the bed. Now lying flat on his back, Kagami stared up at the ceiling. “So… what’s up now?” he muttered. You turned onto your side, propping your head up with your arm. “Taiga… why haven’t you had a girlfriend?”
“Huh?!” His head snapped toward you so fast you thought his hand would've flew off.
“I mean, look at you,” you said honestly. “You’re literally every girl’s dream.”
Kagami’s mouth opened, then closed again. His face was burning now, and he looked away quickly, eyes darting back up to the ceiling.
“I-I don’t know if you’re just pulling all these stupid-ass questions outta your ass or wha-"
“Just shut up and answer it,” you interrupted, narrowing your eyes at him.
He gulped. How the hell was he supposed to answer that? How was he supposed to tell you the real reason, the one thing he’d buried for years?
That the only reason he hadn’t dated anyone was because he’d had a major crush on you since the first time he met you in his second year of high school.
It had started off so simple, just you coming to the gym to bring towels and snacks for the guys, but it had grown into something Kagami couldn’t shake. He’d always thought you were pretty. Beautiful, even. But it wasn’t just that. It was your energy. If he was the flame, you were the fuel. Seeing you cheer for the team, even at practice games managed to light something up in him every time. He’d been so determined to ask you out once, back in those days. But then Kuroko had quietly told him you were already in a relationship.
That was the end of that.
Or at least… it was supposed to be.
It didn’t stop him from sliding into the role of your best friend, from always being there for you no matter what. He respected your relationship even when he hated the guy you were with. He respected the friendship you two had built for the past five years, even if it meant swallowing every stupid feeling he’d ever had for you.
And now? Now you were lying in bed next to him, freshly heartbroken, and he was boiling with a quiet rage at the asshole who’d made you feel so worthless. Because to Kagami, you were worth everything.
And he still couldn’t say a damn word.
Kagami cleared his throat and tried to play it off. “I-I dunno,” he mumbled, turning his face away from you. “Guess… it just never felt right with anyone. Talking stages or whatever, but… yeah. No girlfriends.”
You blinked at him, surprised at how serious he sounded. “Never?”
“Never,” he confirmed, arms folded behind his head
“Wow,” you whispered.
“W-what the hell does that mean?!” he snapped, glaring at you with that familiar flustered expression.
“Nothing,” you said, settling back down into your pillow. “Just… kinda shocked. Guess I thought someone like you would’ve been taken by now.”
Kagami’s heart pounded so loud he was afraid you’d hear it. After a couple of moments of silence, his heartbeat finally steadied. You turned your gaze up to the ceiling, trying to hold yourself together as tears began to well up in your eyes.
“Taiga… am I ugly?”
Kagami’s head snapped toward you. “Why would you even ask that?!” He said as pushed himself up from his lying position, his expression a mix of shock and frustration. The fact that you genuinely seemed to believe such an absurdity made his heart hurt.
You sniffled, wiping at your cheeks. “I just feel like… maybe if I was prettier, he wouldn’t have thought I was so hard to deal with…”
Kagami scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. How badly did that guy mess with your self-esteem?
A few seconds later as if he had to contemplate in doing something he leaned down until his face was level with yours, his intense crimson eyes locked with yours, leaving you stunned. You weren’t sure where this sudden boldness from him came from, but you couldn’t look away.
“Listen to me and look at me say this,” he said, voice firm. “You’re the farthest thing from ugly. And if that guy can’t get that through his thick ass skull. I swear I’ll knock it into him myself.”
The seriousness in his tone made your breath hitch. Not just that, his eyes. The way Kagami was looking at you. Your faces were just inches apart, and the air between you was heavy with something you’d never felt from him before. It wasn’t a surprise when you leaned up and kissed him. Instinct. Pure instinct. You knew it was reckless. He was your best friend. One wrong move could ruin everything. That thought flashed across your mind in the split second your lips touched his, but before you could pull away, Kagami wrapped a strong arm around your waist and kissed you back.
The way he kissed you, desperate, like he’d been holding it in for years, it stole the air from your lungs. You hadn’t expected him to respond at all, let alone like this. But were you complaining? Hell no. All that pent up frustration, vulnerability, and unspoken tension poured out in the kiss. When the two of you finally pulled back, breathless, you stared at each other.Kagami was the first to speak.
“Did you… actually want that, Y/N? I don't want to take advantage of your vul-"
You quickly pressed your finger against his lips.
“Did you want that, Taiga?”
He blinked, caught off guard. “Of course I did! Y/N, I’ve… I’ve wanted that since high school. You seriously don’t get how long I-"
Your eyes widened. What? He’d wanted you that long? All those years you thought Kagami was way out of your league meanwhile, Izuki and Koga’s little hints about him suddenly didn’t feel like jokes. They were right?!
You’d never admitted it to anyone, but yeah… sometimes you’d daydream about Kagami even back when you had a boyfriend. It was just a stupid, guilty fantasy you’d never dare act on. But now…
As if he could read your mind, Kagami leaned closer, his broad frame practically caging you in as he whispered,
“I didn’t want to tell you how I feel when you’re like this,” Kagami said quietly, his brows furrowed. “I don’t… I don’t want you to regret anything with me.”
Your heart thudded at the weight of his words. “How strong are these feelings?” you asked softly.
He let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his messy red hair. There was only one thing he could say.
“I love you. I always have. I dunno how you never noticed—”
Before he could finish, you grabbed his face and crashed your lips against his again, harder this time. All thoughts of your ex,the hurt, the mess, vanished. He didn’t matter anymore. You tugged on Kagami’s hoodie with a desperation that made him immediately understand. He broke the kiss just long enough to yank it off, and your breath caught at the sight of his toned, muscular chest.
Yeah, you knew Kagami was built like a Greek god, but… holy hell, seeing him like this up close was something else entirely.
He didn’t give you much time to say anything else before his lips were back on yours, hotter and needier than before. You shrugged your own hoodie off, the warmth of your bare skin against each other. Only your bra separated you now, and even that soon felt like too much. But just as you reached for it, Kagami suddenly pulled back.
“Wait.” His crimson eyes were serious, locked on yours. “I’m gonna sound like a total dork, but… say you swear you want this. I’m not going any further if you’re not sure. I don’t… I don’t want you to regret anything with me, Y/N.”
You opened your mouth, but he cut you off firmly.
“No. Think about it for a second. Then look at me and tell me you swear you want this to go further.”
You held his gaze, heart hammering in your chest. “I want this, Taiga. I want you.”
“You swear?”
“I swear.”
He swallowed hard, a faint pink dusting his cheeks, but he didn’t look away. “…Take it off for me, gorgeous.”
The way his voice dropped made heat coil low in your stomach. Without breaking eye contact, you unclasped your bra and let it slip off your shoulders, baring yourself to him.
Kagami’s jaw visibly tightened as his eyes darted over your chest. “Damn… they’re-” he stopped himself, taking a moment to admire the beauty before him, “They’re beautiful. Everything about you is beautiful, Y/N.”
You reached for his hand and placed it over your breast, your voice a breathless whisper. “Then show me how beautiful I am, Taiga.”
Still holding your gaze with those gorgeous crimson eyes, Kagami leaned forward and gently cupped one of your breasts, brushing his thumb over your nipple. It instantly hardened under his touch, drawing a soft moan from you.
And then he surprised you completely warm lips closed around your nipple. You gasped, arching instinctively, and his eyes flicked up to meet yours as he sucked gently.
“K-Kagami…” your breath hitched, and that quiet moan you let out made him all the more riled up.
Wanting to drive you crazy, he gave a light, careful bite, making you let out a louder moan.
Wanting to drive you crazy, he gave a light, careful bite, and the louder moan that escaped your lips made his ears burn. Kagami pulled back just enough to look at you with a grin.
“I could seriously do this for days, y’know,” he muttered, voice a little rough. Then his expression turned more serious as he reached down and untied the drawstring of his sweats, sliding them off. “But… I want to make love to you.”
You blinked, raising a brow at him. “Make love? Not ‘fuck my brains out’? That’s… new.”
A smirk tugged at his lips, though his cheeks were slightly pink. “who said I can’t do both?”
And with that, he pulled down his boxers. You gasped as his dick sprang free, hitting his stomach. Holy shit. He was huge. Way bigger than your fuck ass ex. Way bigger.
Flustered, you scrambled to take off your pants and underwear, but Kagami immediately stopped you, his big hands stilling yours. “Wait. Let me,” he said, voice soft. Slowly, he slid your clothes off, his touch making you get goosebumps. When you were completely bare in front of him.
“Damn… Y/N,” he breathed out, rubbing a finger gently against your soaked folds, collecting your slick. “I thought I’d have to at least… prep you a bit more, but…” He looked back up at you, his eyes locking with yours, “…I think this pretty pussy already wants me, huh?”
Heat flooded your cheeks, but the way he said it sent another rush of arousal through you. Kagami exhaled deeply, steadying himself as he lined up at your entrance. He gave a couple light taps of his cock against your folds, his expression focused. “I’m gonna go slow, okay?” he said quietly, leaning in to kiss your forehead. “Tell me if it hurts. I don’t want to hurt you.”
You nodded and then, slowly so painfully slowly, he pushed inside, his broad shoulders tensing as he tried to keep control.
“God…you feel-” Kagami bit down on his lip, eyes squeezing shut. “so damn good.”
It took everything in Kagami to keep a steady, comfortable pace . Every fiber of his body wanted to lose control, to give into the animalistic instinct but he forced himself to stay mindful. The way your warm walls clenched around him was already pushing him to the edge, and he bit down hard on his lip, fighting not to go too fast. It was an amazing sight. He waited, focusing on your reactions, until you adjusted to his size and the sting eased from your features.
“Please… move faster,” you whispered, breathless.
It was all he needed to hear. “God, finally,” Kagami muttered under his breath, relief and desire flashing in his crimson eyes. His hips gradually picked up the pace, faster and harder, but still measured enough to make sure you were comfortable.
The pleasure was undeniable, all consuming, and unlike anything either of you had felt before. Kagami wasn’t new to this, and neither were you, but being with each other this way felt way different. Every thrust felt so blissful, and the way he fit so perfectly inside you made it feel like your body had been made for his all along.
Soon, the familiar tightening in your stomach began, the tingling knot slowly expanding until you couldn’t hold it back anymore.
“F-Fuck, Taiga… I think I’m gonna—”
“Me too, my baby… me too,” he panted out, voice thick and low. The nickname slipped out without thought, but he didn’t care. But you were all the more happy to hear that. What could be better than your heart and your pussy being filled?
You honestly couldn’t believe how quickly this was about to end though. You’d never been brought to the edge this fast before, not with anyone. Majority of the times you’d been left hanging, left to finish yourself with a toy or your fingers, felt meaningless compared to this moment.
Kagami’s hand suddenly reached for yours, his large fingers intertwining tightly with your smaller ones. He locked eyes with you, eyes burning with intensity even as his hips moved deep inside you.
Something about that eye contact the way he looked at you like you were his whole world made your chest tighten. There was no questioning it now. This wasn’t just sex. You could see it in him. Kagami loved you.
And, deep down, you realized you always loved him too. You just never had the chance to fully understand it until now.
And with that thought in your mind, you unraveled completely, your climax coming with it. The way your walls clenched around him was too much Kagami cursed under his breath and quickly pulled out, spilling his release across your stomach.
You barely had time to catch your breath before you felt the bed shift. Kagami was already up, reaching for the tissue box you kept on your nightstand. His big hands was surprisingly gentle as he carefully wiped you clean. The action was so tender, that your chest tightened. For a moment, you thought you might actually cry.
“Taiga….Can you… stay the night?”
He froze, then looked up at you like the question was ridiculous. “Well duh, Y/N,” he said firmly, tossing the tissues aside. “I was gonna do that anyway.”
The way he said it, no hesitation, no second thought made you smile softly. He climbed over to the side of you, and pulled the blanket covering the both of you, and wrapped an arm around your waist.
And like that you both fell asleep.
❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ────── ❖ ── ✦ ─
Unfortunately, you were woken up at around 9:30 AM thanks to the glimmering sunlight that shone through your windows. You stirred with the intent of closing your blinds and going right back to sleep, but before you could even move, a pair of strong arms tugged you back into bed. "Where are you going?" The voice was groggy but unmistakably Kagami’s. He actually stayed the night. “I’m going to close the blinds,” you murmured as you tried to shift. Kagami sat up, his hair an absolute disaster
(I like to imagine it with this picture)
“…Fuck. What time is it?” You glanced at your alarm clock. “9:32.” He sighed in frustration and facepalmed. “Shit, bro. I was supposed to wake up earlier and make breakfast.” He grabbed his phone, already scrolling. “What do you want to eat?”
“That’s all you’re asking?” you blinked at him. He looked up at you, expression serious but unsure. “What are we even supposed to say after something like that? I’m sorry, I just genuinely-"
You cut him off with a small smile, and instantly he shut up. Something about your morning face, the way the sun spilled over your features, and that soft smile made him realize waking up to this sight was… enchanting. All he ever wished to wake up to in the future.
“Taiga,” you started softly, “I mean… i obviously don’t think we can go back to just being friends after last night. And it’s complicated. I just got out of a relationship, and I don’t want to… you know, look like a hoe.”
Kagami met your eyes, voice steady. “Listen, what happens with us isn’t anyone’s business. And if anyone even thinks something like that about you…” He scoffed, leaning forward. “You know I’m gonna shove a basketball in their mouth.” You almost laughed at the serious expression plastered on his face. Then his voice softened. “Do you want to be with me? As my girlfriend?”
You hesitated for only a second, because yeah, it all felt fast. But it also felt right. That was all that mattered.
“Yes, Taiga. I do.”
A small breath of relief left him, and he nodded. “We don’t have to tell anyone right now. We can go public eventually. For now, all that matters is… we know.” You shifted, crawling into his lap and hugging him tightly. “I love you, Taiga. And thank you.”
"For what?” he asked, pressing a soft kiss to your shoulder. He was too flustered to say it back yet, but you could feel it anyway.
“For helping me move forward,” you whispered.
“I… I love you too,” he mumbled, so quiet you almost didn’t catch it. A small smile crept into your face.
“But… uh… can we, like, redo me asking you to be my girlfriend?”
You blinked at him, confused. “Huh? Why?”
“Because it was lame as hell!” Kagami groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “Seriously, it has to be better than this. Let me at least… I don't know… get you flowers or something next time!”
