Welsh Music Wednesday
Shwmae pawb, I return with another recommendation of a cerddor Cymraeg/Cymreig that you should check out!
Kizzy Meriel Crawford and her sister Eädyth are both bilingual singers and songwriters from Merthyr Tydfil. Kizzy's music has progressed from folk to jazzier work, and occasionally takes up rock and pop influences as well. She's covered traditional songs, written 4 albums of her own, performed at Glastonbury, the Ivor Novello awards and even at the 6 Nations and the 2016 Euros.
She's worked in more languages too, like on her 2021 album Rhydd ('Free'), she has a song in Portuguese and Welsh called ‘Encanto Há Vida, Há Esperança’. She said at the time that the song was about hope, and she literally used the medium of the language as the source of her hope, as she said she found new and different ways to express herself in Welsh and Portuguese.
Here she is, performing it in the barn on the S4C programme Noson Lawen.
A personal favourite song of mine though is on the same album, ‘Pwy Dwi Eisiau Bod’ (‘Who I Want To Be’)
Some of her older work is on her Bandcamp page here.
(Past Welsh Music Wednesdays in the tag if you want more :) )
