Fairy lights on the wall shine their brightest in the dark bedroom, the dim light from the television accompanying it to create a tiny light show for the pair of girls. Eunjin’s dark blue silk pajamas reflect the lights as if it would protect her, though a little light never hurt anyone. Teddiursa, Eunjin’s 3-year-old toy poodle, wore similar style pajamas, a cute combination with her owner’s. The toy poodle was fast asleep on Eunjin’s comfy bed, wrapped into a blanket burrito. It was merely 20:00, but for Teddiursa, it was time for her beauty sleep. 

My Neighbor Totoro was starting. Eunjin’s television displays the opening, characters such as little Mei, Chu Totoro, and Chibi Totoro marching on the screen to the opening song. Reading subtitles was no biggie for Eunjin, and she hoped it wasn’t much of a problem to Seoah. The Korean dub was adorable, but watching the movie with Korean subtitles was better for her. Eunjin’s plump lips form a tiny ‘o’ as she whistles an entirely different rhythm than the one on tv. “토나리노 토토로 토토로~!” Wrong song, but it still applied to the film.

there was a concerned look planted on chuls face as he looked at them. ❝ who is ? ❞ he wonders softly. ❝ are you okay ? did something happen ? ❞ he said, displaying a bit of worry on his features. ❝ you know you can ask for my help if you need it right? ❞ he reminded them.

⠀⠀⠀⠀ the elder’s voice was soft but the impact it made was clear, for years she felt as though she had been overshadowed by the youth of people coming into the company. hajun’s eyebrows quirk up as she squinted, looking ahead of her as the two walked down the street. “ i know, it’s just sometimes with these new interns it feels like they’ve got a lot more gusto when it comes to things,” her voice was quiet as she analyzes her own words and feelings. “ it’s fine though, we are NOT that old, anyway, we have so much potential !! ”

There was so much grace and elegance, at least that was the best way he could describe her in his mind. She reminded him of why he took such interest and inspiration, such love and passion, for photography. Human’s were beautiful creatures, and she proved that to him each time she was on his set. Although he should be used to photographing idols, models and celebrities, each time he was still in awe. If anything, he felt genuinely lucky to be able to progress so far in this industry.

The camera felt like it had meant to be in the palm of his hand, that this was meant for him for the rest of his life. He was never bored or tired of it, and if anything he was captivated each time. Bringing people to life with a simple click of a button, pronouncing their beauty, showing the world that there is more to them.

Photography was, at least, his best way of communication. He had her on his set a few times, ensuring to capture her best angles(which, he believed every angle of hers to be enthralling). But yet, they hadn’t spoken much aside from a few directions coming from his own mouth here and there.

Today could have been no different, but as the set was wrapping up the final shots of the day he couldn’t quite help himself. Why should he not at least attempt to strike a conversation for once, on his own accord? After all, he had her on his set more often than not and he believed a stronger connection with the camera could be made if she knew a little bit more about him. At least, all these years of training behind professionals is what he had gathered.

He clears his throat, “Alright, and that’s a wrap! Great job today everyone!”

There’s a bit of relief in the room, as shoots can typically be draining depending the location and duration of time the idols and crew are meant to be on set. He looks up from his lens and raises a hand, gesturing for Seoah to come over once he was able to garner her attention. “Would you like... to uh, see the shots we got for the day? I don’t think I’ve had the opportunity to show you much before.”

“I THINK YOU ARE..”

          “Well, miss, you enjoy spoiling me with your sweet words.”            He chuckles lightly, clearly amused at her choice of phrasing,           “But I appreciate how candid you are, hn. I’m glad you do, sweetheart.            I can most definitely say the same things about you.”

As if an angel seized him by the arms to help him descend to heaven, that’s pretty much the euphoric feeling pulsing through him right now at Seoah’s words. It has been a long long time since someone has called him tall and it’s the perfect ego boost for the ghost. With his features immediately brightening up, he stares at her with a new light of intense awe radiating from his hopeful eyes. “Coming from such a cutie like you, I’m surprised but so grateful right now. No no no, you aren’t wrong! Tall? Check. Adorable? Check.” cue him using his puppy eyes at this moment for his plea in her recognising his “adorable” quality. “Softie? Check… I think. No. Yes. I am wholesome and a softie. To prove it, I spend my free time watching sunsets, having tea picnics, reading in blanket forts, listening to your songs when it’s raining… which are the epitome of softness.” here he slyly winks at her. “And I like spending time in bakeries to inhale the scent of expensive cakes that I will never be able to afford but a cute boy like me can dream, yes?”

“But why would they abduct cows?”

❝ ☠  Curiosity killed the cat and for some reason an unknown entity saw to it that satisfaction always brought it back. Cats were the successful versions of Orpheus and her nose wrinkles at the others’ comment. Tired eyes covered in a misty drunken haze linger over Seoah with the same fondness that she deliberately gives her cat right before she catches him doing something that he shouldn’t. “My area of expertise involves spirits, demons, creatures that go bump in the night. But aliens?” she lets her hands rest behind her, holding her weight up with ease as her head tips to look at the night sky. “Maybe the like cows because they’re docile creatures. And I was watching this one video of how humans treat cows, so maybe they pity them.” Her response is as honest as she can make it and for awhile she allows it to make strange scenarios involving cows in her head.

“I wouldn’t think about it too much, if anything I’m sure aliens are a hell of a lot nicer than some entities so I doubt they’re torturing the poor animals.” Reaching her hand over the space in between them to grab herself another moonpie to dull the ache that alcohol usually brings her on an empty stomach, Vanessa snorts. “Where did this come from anyway? Do you have a pet cow you’re keeping hidden away from me?” questioning the woman in between bites of pies, she stifles a small burp shaking her head. “Ah we should start heading back in, it’s not good to be out here during the witching hour you know.”

Losing the need and the ability to fall asleep means Jaewoo is confronted with one perpetual stretch of endless looming nights ahead. But his boredom is counteracted with pesky apparition activity usually peaking during the darkened hours. Scouring one of the parks when twilight begins to dust the sky with its lazy hues, he tends to usually find smaller apparitions of animals that need tending to. This once, spirits seem to be influenced by the increasing warmth of spring breezes that softly blows most antagonism this way since his night is seemingly tranquil so far. Stopping by near the water foundations that are dimly lit with a few rebellious children and teens zigzagging through them, his ears latch onto the mellifluous honeyed notes of a female busker nearby. Sitting down on closeby steps, the fluid harmonic tune of the singer attracts a bit of an audience as she thrills on about heartbreak, broken trust and shattered dreams. 

Unbeknownst to him, tears begin to prick at his eyes and a familiar itching sensation washes over his lids. Bringing his knees to his chest, he rests his chin on them as he tries not to allow her voice to lull him into another world of hopeless romance he can never achieve. As soon as he’s about to close his eyes to hide his tearful expression, he awkwardly catches eye contact with another female also sitting down near him to presumably listen to the woman. And to his dismayed relief, she seems to be crying too. Now completely embarrassed that he’s caught in such a vulnerable state, he has to dismiss it with a small mumble, “it’s just that… her voice is so beautiful. And I uhm… appreciate romantic concepts.” something about her face rings a bell but he can’t put a name to it when their settings are pretty murky from the dulled lights.
