kibum's fingers slide across the piano keys. he plays a scale of a melody stuck in his head for almost three years. the sound is mellow, warm in essence and rich in a balance created between lows, mids, and highs. he plays the same song time after time, sensitive ears perceiving the adjustments required, mind set on the nimble and bright scene he pictures when his heart flows with the melody. 

the studio has been empty for a while. it’s a saturday night, yet kibum decided to not spend it out in the company of others. often, he wonders if he is reaching that age in which shallowness becomes a distant memory each day a bit more but the truth is that this started a while ago. every day it’s more and more difficult to keep himself alienated from recollections of things he wished he could forget. sometimes he found himself thinking of shy brown eyes and a little pleased smile on plush lips, of what it may have been if certain choices hadn’t been taken that friday night. if he hadn’t been selfish. if he had dared to make this question out loud.    

❝ that melody again, ❞ maria, his manager, points out as she makes her way to him, her arms surrounding her middle. ❝ you only play that song when you have a lot going on in your head. ❞

kibum’s fingers finish the melody. he takes a deep breath before he glances up at her. ❝ i thought you had an important meeting. ❞ he is evading her comment, both of them are aware of it but she is his manager for a reason. ❝ can’t believe it’s over this early. ❞

❝ it isn’t, ❞ she replies without missing a beat. perfect manicured hands drum on the top of the piano. he scrunches up his nose at the vision, glaring at her playfully. ❝ it will be over as soon as you come with me. we need you there to get some things clear. ❞

she takes a breath as if readying herself to say something else but in the end, she decides against it and keeps quiet. kibum quirks an eyebrow, puzzled by her demeanor. ❝ sure, let’s go. do i have to sign something? ❞ he asks as they make their way up to her office.

he holds the door open for the woman and waits until she’s inside to follow her suit. he is laughing at a comment she made about his ugly belt. the moment he looks up, he is assaulted by a rush of emotion. he stops dead in his tracks, usual sharp eyes now widened in surprise. bow-shaped lips part in a silent gasp. his heart? it thunders in recognition. just like that friday three years ago, the only one who didn’t forget was him. 

❝ you must remember kai, he was hired four years ago, ❞ maria supplies, a fond smile on her face. ❝ he took most of the photos required the year you seized your spot at the top. he has agreed to help us out with your new album. ❞

first day at work and momoka’s heart was racing in her chest because she was anxious about everything. the first day was also once more first impression after the interview and she wanted to do her job well. she hadn’t worked as a secretary before so she was going to have to read the notes left by the previous one and learn. a normally more confident woman, was now less confident as she knocked on the door of the ceo’s office. her hands were sweaty so she took the wipes from her bag to wipe them. the opaque red tights started to slowly slide down and she pulled them up over her skirt. luckily there was nobody else to see her doing the adjusting. 

opening the door she went inside smiling brightly at him. “good morning!” she pushed the wipe in her purse and approached the desk with the confidence of a puppy that had just done something wrong. “i think i came a little early. but i wanted to not make a bad impression to you. ummm ... where will be my desk.. .would you like to tell me how you want your coffee so i can prepare it always?” she imagined that bringing him his coffee was also another task she’d have to take care of, as well as the lunch. “and did the previous secretary leave the notes and stuff for the next secretary to find?”

❛  you know you feel blessed with me .   ❜  she’s smug ;  brown false eyes lingering on the human male .   kai was     something  --  a bit of darkness in him  and that had captured her attention when she had saw him some time ago .  playing a role that she didn’t think fit him .      ❛  but that’s alright , you can tell yourself that if it makes you feel better , darling.   ❜ she hums  , tiers softly forming a smirk as she is about to take a few steps forward when she feels his hand upon her sleeve , a small tug that had her interest    perked .  oh the little one had gotten addicted to the side of adventure she showed him .    from underground fights to the underground scene of the night life   ;  he was hooked on it .   the hidden secrets , the criminal dealings , borderline    danger that she lured him into , but of course never more than that .  he was human after all and while she lived for the adrenaline and mayhem   --- his body was not built like her own .   

❛   twisted ? i prefer the term creative genius  and what makes you think i have anything in store for today ?    ❜  don’t get her wrong , she did  -- a little racing scene that would take out in the outskirts of the city  or more like at a construction zone .   little    details that weren’t needed in her view but still  ,  it’s golden locks that settle on her shoulders as her free hand lingers up to run through her tresses and her smile upon her lips ever so coy .  ❛  what if i just dropped by because i missed you.   ❜     falseness      drips on her tongue as it’s coated with a sugary tone .  she was sure he knew well enough that it was a lie but yet all the same to taunt him with a night of adventure .  ❛  or i just simply wanted to change my routine for the day .  you normally never have anything going anyways .  thought you could use the company.  ❜

UNCANNILY parallel to a recent incident where Jaewoo himself was the willfully obstinate force and unyielding to give in about any “issues”, he can see a fragment of himself in the other’s cold demeanour. There is no layered history between the two such as childhood friends who were tragically yanked apart after years of relentless roleplaying and chasing with plastic figurines which is why the apathetic HOSTILITY does not faze him in the slightest. After all, he is in no position to judge when his own emotional repression has mercilessly chucked him into the position he is today: nothing but a ghost drunk on grief. The underlying heartbreaking of knowing that humans like Kai  ( the question rests on whether he is truly human or not )  have a second chance to turn their life around. The opportunity to search for CONVICTION in emotional vulnerability to trusted friends is still there and he doesn’t wish to see a repeat of his own mistakes. 

“It is very cliché but I want you to start being honest with yourself,” he flashes him a blindingly bright smile despite the darkening atmosphere that looms with the possibility of thunderous grey clouds ahead. “If you had called me before then you wouldn’t have gotten THIS worked up either and I wouldn’t have to see you like this. Do you want to tell me what got you this mad in the first place or do we move on?” ever so sensitively perceptible to his surroundings, he observes the AGITATED twitching of the other’s hands so he whips out a lollipop from his pocket. “Strawberry or cola? But you really are stupid for letting yourself getting worked p to this state when you could have EASILY called me and I would have distracted you with the fine game of truth or dare.” waving a lollipop in the air, another mischievously bright grin lights up his features with an impish glee. “For example, I dare you to go serenade the first person that walks in front of you next. Full-on singing with acting and everything.”

Yerin was truly something else, with her harsh words and blunt opinions. But she was the type to dish it, and he was the type to send it right back. At least, with her he learned how to play her little games. He wasn’t about to be feeding from the palm of her hand but he would go along with her, let her show him the ropes of her underground lifestyle. So, he was like her little toy and if she wanted him to change his clothes and act a certain way to “fit in”, he would. Without much complaint, too.

It shouldn’t have come as much as a surprise either that she wasn’t going to let him drive. Once his dark hues had landed on her vehicle, he felt adrenaline already pumping through his veins with excitement. God, how he’d love to get his own hands behind those wheels. “If only you knew what I could handle. You’re a tease, Yerin. Ever heard that before? Ah, don’t even answer.” He’s flashing her a smirk as he had climbed in on the passenger side.

Nervous was a quality he always possessed, but he was oddly enough comfortable as they approached the scene. It was a mad house almost, loud music blasting and voices carrying on through the night. A scene he had only been to a few times with Yerin, and a scene he wasn’t quite used to yet. Nonetheless, fingers are brushing through styled, chocolate brown hair to push the strands from out of his eyes so that he wouldn’t miss a second of what was unraveling here.

“You don’t have to worry about me getting into trouble, sounds like that’s my line for you. But, if trouble finds us.. I can handle my own.” He was still sporting a grin, wanting to reassure her but if anything she was probably going to be the handful of the two of them. At least that he could say for certain. But this was, again, Yerin’s scene. What she said, he took to heart. He knew these were a bunch of rich kids, snobby people who he didn’t quite belong with. It wasn’t his type of people in general, but he knew how to coat his words with honey and tell anyone what they wanted to hear.

Kai had his hand on the door handle, a sharp breath taken once a hand is planted firmly on his thigh. Of course. It was always a bit of surprise but he’s reminded that this is her and quite honestly, he didn’t mind. The moment it was there, it was gone. Just like the tease she was.

“Pick up a girl here? God, I don’t think I want any of the diseases that come with them. Least of your concerns, princess.” He was laughing, quick to slip out of the vehicle now and round to the front. He was now suitably dressed, partially thankful he hadn’t shown up in the casual attire he was sporting earlier. He shrugs, his dark hues flickering around to survey the rest of the scene. “I think.. I need a drink already and to see what this is all about.”  // @kkxai​

 ❛  that’s what they all say then a cute girl winks at that and they are puppy dogs.  just keep on your toes . ❜  these girls had their trick and most of those tricks involved    emptying    any poor soul’s pocket one way or another .  but that was for him to see as she hummed out , lingers running through her golden tresses as the scent of car oils and smoke filled the air .   ❛  a drink ? go for it . i’ll be back . gotta give in the cash and pink slip .  ❜  there’s adrenaline in her veins as she gives him a quick wave .  ❛ the makeshift bar is over by the dunes .  ask for rico , he’ll give you good drinks .  he’ll be the tall drink of handsome with the scar on his right eye . ❜   probably the   only   nonshitty human that roamed these parts of the underground scene .  not to speak ill although her tongue was known to be sharp , he was one of the few that couldn’t be brought by bribes to do ungodly deeds .    ❛   don’t miss me too much , kai.  ❜  there’s a    subtle    smirk upon her tiers before she departs from him , gives him the space to learn the surroundings a little .

the transaction wasn’t a   hassle , years being in these scenes made her known and most didn’t dare to really annoy her knowing her temper .  now, all there was to do was to wait  --- the race would not start until another hour or so and she had secured her spot in the first place position from the last time .  but that wasn’t her goal now as she looked for a certain eyesore that she had left on his own  .  

 ❛  looks like you’re having a blast .  ❜   amusement dances on the tip of her tongue as she finds who she had been looking for .  not that it was a hassle  , his scent was something that zephyr had long remembered just in case of emergencies .  ❛  anything fun happened while i was gone ? ❜  question drips from her tiers , letting her hands shove themselves into the barely there pockets of her makeshift shorts .  eyes staring out to the bonfire that they had started  --- music blasting loudly , inhaling the way the mortals enjoyed the events .  there was all types of scenes happening ;  off to the corners people dealt their drugs , in others ; lewd acts happened away from the lights while the majority of them surrounded the cars that were about to race , checking out equipment they had installed .  then there was some that had illegal modifications taking place as they took to  chance that the best of the underground mechanic  were located in one area .   ❛   i have an hour to kill before my race , which you’ll be accompanying me in .  ❜    she hums , it wasn’t rare for others to have someone in their car  -- while zephyr never did .  she figured why not give kai the adrenaline he was looking for .  

 ❛  i got the map for the outline of the race . 40 miles , we’ll be going into the city .  ❜   there’s excitement in her voice as she glances up at her company of the night.   ❛  they are installing cameras into the cars right now to give a live feed for the crowd .     what do you say , are you game ? ❜

Terrible, shrill shrieks of an animal echoed down the road.

"Look at its legs!”

The grime clung to the walls of buildings in long, thick bands, stretching all the way to the pavement--both foul-smelling from garbage and organic waste alike.

“What if we pull the tail really hard?”

No one preferred to linger in parts of the city like this for very long. They usually hurried past on their way to better things. And for the people who lingered--mainly the people stuck in these shitty homes, stuck in shitty lives? They were too jaded to care.

Two middle school boys shuffled further into the cramped alley, hovering over the kitten they tormented. As one reached his hand out for the aforementioned tail, an empty water bottle smacked into it. And as he shook off the surprise to reach again, another did. And another. And another. Looking up, the boys realized a wall of water bottles floated in the air behind them, as weightless as if they sat in water. One by one, the water bottles launched themselves at the boys, knocking into them harmlessly. But the sight alone was enough to send them shouting down the road, hooting and hollering about ghosts and cats being bad luck.

From the other side of the bottles, two glowing lights could be seen in the darkness. They swiveled in the direction of the kitten, now shaking and crying pitifully on the ground. The water bottles lowered down gently, so as not to make loud noise and startle the poor thing. Once the debris was out of the way, Vartouhi stepped forward from the shadows of the longer end of the alley. Tears glistened along her bottom lashes with the radiant white light of her eyes, her teeth grit with the effort not to cry at the cruelty she’d witnessed. The kitten watched her with wide, terrified eyes, expecting more mistreatment.

Instead, the alien kneeled on the ground near it. Using her abilities, she lifted the poor creature into the air, and deposited it into her cupped hands. It was so small that it fit perfectly. “Do not worry, little one,” she spoke softly, and if the use of her powers didn’t indicate it enough, the speech in her native language certainly did--she thought the area was deserted and ignored enough that she was safe to do what she did next. 

Bringing the kitten close to cradle it to her chest, her fingers gently stroked over the head of the animal, over and over. Its expression slowly calmed, and its eyes even drooped as if sleepy. Deciding it was sedated enough, she then drew her fingers over the broken hind legs. Once they stopped twitching--a sign she took to mean she had numbed them enough--the bones began to seemingly rearrange back into proper position. Vartouhi squinted slightly as she tried to dig up all the knowledge she had of bone repair, slowly but surely healing the limbs as the seconds ticked by.
