“Look…” Blaine sighs heavily. “I’d changed twice by the time I found Quinn and Santana, and trust me. It helps to have other wolves around you when you do. We just play and chase animals. There were a couple of times when the wolf got the better of me and I tried to run off and explore, and they stopped me.”
“I’m not going to run off.” Kurt murmurs stubbornly.
“You don’t know that.”
“Why would I want to run off?”
“You’re not you yet,” Blaine says, voice rising a little before he groans in frustration and drags a hand over his eyes. “I’m sorry, it’s just… you don’t know what you’ll do. If you end up in town or if someone sees you, we’re all going to be in danger.” His voice drops imploringly. “I don’t want you to get into trouble Kurt. I just want to help.”
Kurt stares at the worn wood of the table, breathing steadily to keep from crying. “I don’t need you to hold my hand, Blaine. Thank you for trying to look out for me, but I’ve spent most of my life alone whether I wanted to or not. I’ve learnt to take care of myself.”
Blaine’s hand covers Kurt’s, and Kurt digs his fingers into the wood, clenching his teeth to not pull away.
“You don’t have to be alone anymore,” Blaine says quietly. “You’re not alone anymore. You can trust us. You can trust me.”
“I’ve heard that before,” Kurt whispers, afraid to raise his voice any higher in case it cracks. “I need time. I – I need to do this alone.”
He stands without catching Blaine’s eye, and walks through the kitchen and onto the back porch, hearing the sound of a fist hitting wood as he wipes his eyes with an unsteady hand, and gazes out at the falling sun.
6. What do you think of Valentine’s Day? well i’ve never had a valentine before now, but i still think it’s kinda stupid. but also there’s a weird but cool unity to the loneliness/love/lust being shared by people? i don’t even know man.
