K so I’m doing this for @klancehalloween . Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with these prompts though I might miss a few haha. Today’s prompt was Tricks, so hopefully this works haha. Happy Halloween!
“Hey, uh… Keith? Did you um. Did you leave this in my room…?” Lance was gingerly handling a very, very, very glittery pumpkin in his hand, but still couldn’t stop the orange glitter from spilling to the floor.
Keith didn’t even look up from his phone as he responded, “I don’t know, Lance, do you know anything about that creepy doll thing that keeps popping up in my closet? Any idea where that keeps coming from?”
There was a moment of silence before Lance grumbled something under his breath, pouting as he walked away. When Keith glanced up he let out an amused puff of air, eyeing the bright trail of orange glitter that followed behind his grumpy boyfriend.
He also wasn’t at all surprised when Annabelle wound up on his pillow in the middle of the night.
“KEITH!” Everyone at the breakfast table looked up in alarm at Lance’s enraged shout. Well, everyone except for Keith himself. He just continued to eat.
“Keith, you better cut it out, or else – or else –“ Pidge looked like she was five seconds away from bursting into laughter. “Or else what, Lance?” she questioned.
Lance glared from the doorway, completely covered in what looked like spiderwebs, but Keith knew were actually super sticky, long lasting threads he had found in the space mall a few weeks back. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about.” Somehow, Keith managed to keep his own laughter from his voice, but it was a near thing. Lance seemed to be at a loss for words, so Keith continued, “Isn’t that what you said when I told you to stop throwing that stupid sheet and those masks over Cosmo whenever he decides to visit you? It’s weird when he teleports onto my bed in the middle of the night, looking like some random monster.” Shiro choked on his goo.
“Keith…” But Lance trailed off, seemingly unsure of what he could say in his defense without admitting to the crime. Keith looked at him expectantly for a few minutes, but when it became obvious that Lance was at a loss, shrugged and went back to his food goo, leaving Lance to stalk back to his room to try and rid himself of the threads.
That night, Keith was startled by someone knocking on his door. He stopped sharpening his knife, confused as to who might be visiting him. But when he opened the door, he only grew more confused. He stared at Lance, then focused on the steaming cups Lance had in his hands. Then his expression turned more wary. “Lance… what is in that?”
Lance managed to look sheepish, at least. “Relax, Mullet, it’s hot chocolate.”
“Hot chocolate?! Where did you find hot chocolate in space?!”
Lance laughed, shifting from foot to foot awkwardly. “It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. But. I… found some. Um. Would you like to share?”
Keith hesitated only for a moment before he let the other boy in, settling down on the bed next to him. They sat in silence for a few minutes, broken only by the sound of them sipping on the chocolate they held. Finally, Lance broke the silence. “Back home… It’s about Halloween time. And Halloween… it’s a big thing for me and my family. When we were little, we were all obsessed with trick-or-treating. Like, you would not believe the attack plans we had for our neighborhood and even the others near us.” Keith wasn’t sure why Lance was sharing this, but he found himself relaxing as he always did when Lance told him about his life and family on Earth. “As we got older, I would take my niece and nephew instead, but we always, always had a prank war among me and my brothers. Always. Every year. It was mayhem. But… it was fun.” And that’s when Keith realized what Lance was trying to tell him. He was treating him like family. He wanted to include him in his traditions, traditions Keith hadn’t ever experienced on Earth. “But I know that I can be kind of annoying, and loud… and overbearing… and just. Too much. So… truce? I don’t want to annoy you too much. Or at all. We just always had so much fun with it, but I know not everyone does so I’m really sorry and I promise I’ll stop and leave you alone from now on well at least with the pranks but I just wanted to include you and this was the only way I could think of please don’t hate me.” And Keith couldn’t take it anymore.
He pulled Lance into a hug.
“Never, silly boy. I could never hate you,” he responded softly. “And really? I had fun. I really did. It was great, gave me something else to focus on. Something other than the mess that is this war and everything going on with Shiro and my mom and… Anyway. Thank you, Lance. I appreciate it. But,” Keith gave Lance a sly look. “I refuse to accept the truce. Either fight, or be slaughtered. This is war, babe.”
The look Lance gave Keith made his heart melt.
