KLANGWERK - “KLANGWERK”
I suppose the most obvious thing I can say about this track is that its title (and the name adopted by its creators) represent a pointed homage to Kraftwerk. But for the most part, referring to electronic music of any sort as derivative of Kraftwerk in some way is kind of like arguing that everyone who’s ever painted is indebted to the first Neanderthal who spit pigment against a rock wall and made the image of her hand. It’s technically true, sure, but ultimately not an especially productive axis of analysis.
So what else is there to say about “Klangwerk?” It’s a tad experimental, but ultimately could be described as electronic body music with a hint of “New Beat” Belgian House, fusing a danceable, if ominous, marching beat, some spoken-word vocals that sound almost like samples, and a somewhat surprising twist of delicate female backing vocals.
