Niklaus’ first word, if it can be called that, is dyah. Or to be more precise: it’s ‘jah, as he’s trying to say Elijah’s name. They don’t realise it at first and think he’s just babbling, but Niklaus keeps smiling and saying it whenever he sees Elijah.

When Elijah realises, he’s so proud and happy. “That’s right, Niklaus,” he tells him. “I’m Elijah, I’m your brother.”

Niklaus just shrieks happily and captures Elijah’s finger, repeating, “’jah! ‘jah!”
