Wine of Kings

In simple terms, Vin de Constance is a South African dessert wine made from  Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains (Muscat de Frontignan) grapes grown in Constantia, just south of Cape Town.

The wine reached its pinnacle in the 18th and 19th centuries, but with the onset of the phylloxera epidemic, it ceased to exist.

This wine, however is so much more. Steeped in history and laced with desire, this wine was sought after by the czars of Russia, the Kings of France and forever immortalized by poets and the great authors of America.

Napoleon drank it on the Isle of St. Helena to ease his lonely exile. Louis Philippe sent emissaries from France to procure it. Frederick the Great ordered it. The Prime Minister of England made sure consignments from the Cape were delivered to Buckingham Palace for the King.

Charles Dickens tells of its "support embodied in a glass" while Jane Austen recommends it for its "healing powers on a disappointed heart".

Now, a century after its disappearance, the wine has seen a renaissance and rebirth.

The vineyards of Klein Constantia have been redeveloped, ancient records have been studied and vines carefully selected, to once again bring the wine of kings to the people.

Limited production and availability keep this wine a treasure. Don't let this once in a century opportunity pass by.
