jared being like no evan we're not friends we're family friends is so fucking funny when he spends the entirety of the show demonstrating that he knows evan really well he's just really fucking mean about it. talking about evan's report on daisy buchanan. trying to talk him down from the panic attack. being evan's point of contact for everything. and he wants to continue to get to know him better. it's why he invites evan to his house to get wasted. it's why he volunteers to write those fuckass emails. it's why he helps him start that fucking charity when he knows if they just let the situation fade into obscurity they would be in the clear. everything he does, he does for evan. and that's why he feels so betrayed when evan starts to cut him out. because he denies being evan's friend so hard he ends up manifesting it.
