More art I did, part 2!

2. The character portraits (at least some of them)

The portraits were both the most fun AND most difficult parts of the whole process (yes including page layout, which I'll get to in part 3).

Since I got stuck doing the vast majority of the art work during the latter half of production (shoutout to my friends Yudamori, Moonfox, my lovely partner Nyssa, and of course the get foodie Khaos for helping me even make my deadline in the first place)-- I decided that, in order to keep up with the variety I wanted, I would attempt to do a new style for each character portrait

Usually in official projects- the graphic designer would have access to a whole library of art directly from the source material- transparent and HD- and will just paste it where its the most fitting-- HOWEVER since this was a fan project (and one thats *technically* being profited off for charity), I couldn't get away with using official artwork. So! Getting custom art done was very important to making it all work.

Mr Lancer: my attempt at School House Rock Klemper: Peanuts/Charlie Brown Youngblood: Golden Era Disney (he was VERY much out of my comfort zone and you can kinda tell) Dani: 2000s new-retro (A lot closer to my native art style)

Danny: Just a sketchier version of my style since I couldn't think of anything for him (this was drawn prior to the comic idea, missed opportunity on my part) Tucker: MS Paint (Sadly I own a mac so I had to try my best to match that vibe) Johnny and Kitty: 1950s/60s Archie comics (I HEAVILY referenced a lot of those) Spectra: Vogue Magazine

Valerie had no specific style, but I did experiment with color a lot in this one! Val's one of my favorite characters so I wanted to make sure I did her justice

Sidney: Classic retro/UPA

Ember: Punk styled poster-- probably one of my favorite ones out of the whole set. Might make this a print for my own redbubble or something

Freakshow: Sideshow attraction painted poster Might sell him too- I dont get to digitally paint too often so he was really fun to do.

I just made myself sad.

Was thinking about Klepmer from Danny Phantom and how he just wanted a friend and how familiar his pyjama's were. Not because they're typical cartoon pyjama's, no.

He reminds me of the movie "The boy in the Striped Pyjama's" as well as the pyjama's themselves when I saw them at the holocaust museum. (I know they're blue but dp liked inverting and altering colors)

Klemper could have easily been a disabled child victim of concentration camps during the holocaust and froze to death in winter. He could have died looking for a friend because of being lonely. So many families were separated from each other. I can just imagine him looking for a friend alone in the cold with nothing but his stripped pyjama's. His last words being "Will you be my friend?" To either a hallucination of a person in his last waking moments, or his killer before he was shot.

This got so dark so fast.

Eight of Cups Description

In the Eight of Cups, a ghost sits away from the eight doors standing in the foreground. The doors all have pieces missing, a sign that emotional fulfilment and wholeness is lacking. The ghost has turned his back on these cups with a sense of loss and disappointment. the surrounding water symbolises his emotions, and the mountains represent the awareness that this will not be an easy journey (though it will be necessary for true long-term happiness). The moon in the night’s sky illuminates the path ahead – the man is leaving in the dead of night hoping to go unnoticed, suggesting that there may be a level of escape or avoidance in this card.
