Jiro is a Mt. Komorebi native who basically grew up on the slopes. It surprised absolutely no one when he decided to skip out on college and focus all his efforts on going pro in snowboarding
He did fairly well for himself for a long time, ranking high or winning every competition or game he attended
He was a massive source of pride for his hometown but he didn't take that role too seriously
He went out and partied quite a bit in his younger years, often ending up in tabloid magazines and disappointing some members of his community. He didn't care, though. He was at the top of his game and he was having fun
When he was about 34, he sustained a bad injury after miscalculating on a trick. He was rushed immediately to the hospital and told that he could not compete at least for the rest of the season, if not the next one as well.
He took this hard and really retreated into himself. He was almost never seen outside for a whole season. When his doctors told him he would have to sit the next season out as well and do a course of physical therapy, he went on a bit of a bender
The tabloids loved the drama and Jiro found that for the first time, he actually cared. His family, friends, and fellow snowboarders were worried about him and he actually listened to them
He began his course of physical therapy, taking it very seriously. He also began gardening and going on long walks and hikes, just enjoying the beauty of his hometown
That was three years ago now, and though he's back snowboarding, he's not doing as well as he once was. He's getting a bit too old for the sport anyway, it's a young man's game. He still has a massive scar on his abdomen from his injury and his less than ideal treatment of it in the early stages.
As he starts to figure out what he's going to do as he transitions out of snowboarding, his manager suggested this show. It's shooting in Komorebi so he doesn't have to travel, it'll be a good way to give him a bit of his positive reputation back, and who knows? Maybe he will fall in love with this Daniel guy!
He's vaguely aware of Daniel's show, but he never really watched. He can definitely relate to an injury stopping you from doing the thing you love, though, so he feels like he and Daniel might connect on that front.
Jiro is gay and he has been in relationships before, but nothing super serious. The most important thing to him always was snowboarding.
