How I deal with bad in my day.
First, take a step back. take a few deep breaths, focus on your body, what does it need? Have you eaten recently? How about drinking water? Did you get enough sleep? Are you getting enough sunlight?
Making sure your body is well taken care of is vital. Like a car, if you want a smooth trip on the road, you need to do regular maintenance and take preventive measures. It’s not going to fix everything, but it’s a small step that can help make you feel better
Our body is good. Let’s grab a pen and do some writing.
OK. Now make a list. Write all the ‘Good Things’ that happened to you that day.
Some one complimented your new shoes? put it on the list. Did you get the last of your favorite snack from the vending machine? Did you get an A on a test or come up with an answer to a question first? Add it to the List.
Make a new list. a ‘Kind Things’ What are some kind things that YOU did that day. Good things aren’t just for other people.
Now let’s focus on the ‘Bad Things. What is making it bad? Write out your feelings in a journal. Make a list. break it down into smaller, easier to mange chunks.
is it Negativity?
is it bullying?
is it stress?
Are you mad at yourself because you forgot your homework on the couch and your sister sat on it?
Write down every bad thought that’s on your mind, no matter how small.
Now we’ve got our lists. Lets look at the three of them. For the bad list, go through each ‘bad thing’. Write down ideas on how to manage each one or things you can avoid to prevent it from happening again.
Now, will any of these things matter in a week, a month, or a year from now? Are any of these things something you need to involve another person in to fix? Is it something you can do on your own?
You’ve got your ‘bad’ more manageable. You’ve got your whole day written out. Is the Bad still overwhelming? If so, Go back to the Self Care. Your mind and body need it. Some problems take time to deal with, and when you come at it again with a fresh view, you might come up with new solutions you might have missed before.
Be gentle with yourself. Healing and Recovery are a process. Relapses happen. Depression is a beast. Not every problem has a cookie cutter solution. But it can help you not feel so overwhelmed. Above all, recognize that a bad day is Just a Bad Day. It’s not a Bad Life. You are going to get through this.
