Hell yes! As scientists we have to become way more aware of this blatant blind spot which doesnt just give rise to pseudo-science but also to climate denial. I think maybe one way this blind spot could be dealt with is by losing the jargon when communicating with the media and general public, leaving no room for misunderstandings.I have one question however, because Ive never read it before but, how is cryptozoology actually rooted in racism?

Cryptozoology differs from normal folklore in that cryptozoologists often deliberately misconstrue local legends to support their own ideology, and if you actually think of some of the most notable “cryptids”, they stem either from predominantly non-white areas or, if predominantly white, then impoverished/ostracized areas. that’s not to say that it’s not possible for locals to become interested in cryptozoology (which absolutely happens), but more that as a field it constantly trades on the idea of the exotic 

also specifically, the de Loys Ape is a hoax that was propped up for a century because a friend of de Loys was a racist anthropologist who believed different races of humans were fundamentally different species that’d evolved from apes and needed an origin for people in the americas. the broader hoax been debunked for at least a decade but some people still cling to it. See also: people who genuinely believe non-avian dinosaurs still exist in parts of Africa or South America as if it were still “Darkest Africa” (to be sure, there are remote areas that have been poorly researched to this day but not to the extent that exists in pop culture’s mind)
