quite frankly, it was nothing short of a miracle that anakin managed to refrain from shooting obi-wan with a sideways glare. he knew better than to second guess — if not altogether doubt — his master. not out of a sense of blind obedience, but a trust that was born from experience. in his heart, anakin knew that while obi-wan’s knowledge and understanding was vast, he also knew that obi-wan was not omniscient. in a word, there were things that were just out of his grasp, whether he wanted to admit it or not. things like their current predicament, in particular: a simple mission where the two of them were tasked with retrieving an important piece of intel. intel that was used as a bargaining chip by the locals and ordered to get the jedi pair to rescue a group of loved ones from the hands of separatists.
❝ ah, ah, ah — is that arrogance i detect? ❞ clicking his tongue, anakin shook his head at the older man as if scolding him. ❝ not very becoming of a jedi. ❞
he knew — even right before he began to say it — that those words wouldn’t be received too warmly, despite their playful nature; they would be a nuisance; a headache. and maybe it was that same immaturity that anakin was advised against over the years, but he couldn’t help but feel a bit giddy at the flicker of annoyance in his master’s eyes. after all, how many times had anakin himself been reprimanded for his displays of arrogance? his words were ironic, yes; but weren’t they also just a little bit funny?
rather than waiting for a laugh he knew would never come, anakin gave the older man a reassuring clap on his shoulder, and a small toothless smile to show that no harm was intended.
❝ regardless, i still think it’s better that we take them on their offer. even if they don’t have that intel that were looking for, ❞ he shrugged his shoulders, ❝ then at least we would have helped in rescuing innocent civilians from capture. that has to count for something, right? ❞
