Thoughts on ‘Beautiful Ghosts’
I just saw the new featurette for the Cats movie, where Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tom Hooper and Taylor Swift discuss a new song called Beautiful ghosts. According to the clip, it is a song written exclusively for the character Victoria.
While I think the music and lyrics are beautiful, I can’t help but feel that it might be a bit too dark for Victoria. I transcribed the lyrics that were used in the clip so you can see for yourself (might be wrong, please tell me if there’s an error):
“Follow me home if you dare to”
“Perilous night, their voice is calling”
“A flicker of light before the dawning”
“But at least you have beautiful ghosts”
During the first two lines, I immediately thought, “why would Victoria say something like that?”. The lyrics seem too dark for me and don’t fit the innocent, young cat in my opinion. I feel like the idea of ghosts, metaphorically speaking, would be a better fit for Grizzabella. But maybe I’m wrong?
What are your thoughts about the new song? It’d be interesting to see what you who’ve been longer fans of Cats think about the song, I’d love to know more!
