Your wip 'corpse cuddler' is such an intriguing title I love it, can you tell a little bit more about it?? which are your favorite characters to write about
I’m more than happy to!
So, the title actually comes from a derogatory term for necromancers used in-verse. The main locale in the setting is a country run by necromancers, but there are a few surrounding nations that don’t exactly. . . subscribe, y’know?
A lot of negative feelings are directed towards a person’s or familiy’s affinity more than anything else. The system of bias in-verse is specifically based in astrology, since that’s the determiner of magic. My goal was to put a spin on the awful way our own society uses things beyond our control to decide if we’re “good” or “bad.”
CC’s gone through more changes than any other project I’m working on and that’s probably because it’s my passion project. The story now is nothing like the one I first came up with. But I love the final incarnation it’s taken. My inspirations for shaping it were playing on tropes in a healthy way, especially when it comes to romance. I play around a lot with love at first sight, battle couple, and arranged marriage.
I also wanted to do something unique with myths/legends that I love while also maintaining a world steeped in its own lore and magic. I guess that brings me to my favourite character to write: Bell.
Bell is the antagonist of the first installment. He’s a charismatic, gentlemanly (and we use that particular word lightly) thief. The things he typically chases are jewels and artifacts that are in the wrong hands. He’s a Robin Hood of sorts, returning stolen items to their rightful owners, and the authorities despise him for it. That said, he’s not entirely selfless. He still profits from his escapades and actively seeks not only the thrill of the next chase, but the notoriety that comes with every theft.
When he learns about the divine magic of the doyensi defies astrological law, he wants it more than anything. But Bell doesn’t expect the originator of the magic to curse him for taking it. So when the night falls, he transforms into a beast and wreaks terror with reckless abandon. This is my spin on loup-garou. He’s a threat to himself and everyone around him and the effects of the curse have him growing paranoid and violent in the daytime as well. The only way to cure it is for him to die or to hand the magic back over, but with his mind deteriorating the way it is, it’s not an easy feat.
His manner of thinking is just really fun to play with. He doesn’t have a tragic backstory or anything of the sort. He genuinely just does things because he wants to. Nothing holds him down. He lives a life of pure hedonism. Naturally, Bell is forced to undergo a lot of change over the course of one book and it’s one of my favourite things to write.
I ranted a lot, but I hope that answers your question! : D
