This lovely hat was knit by @merakihandwoven in our worsted weight rambouillet yarn dyed naturally with madder root. I am always able to convince myself that whatever natural dye material I am working with is absolutely my favorite. Madder Root (Rubia tinctoria) is truly magical though. Most often associated with oranges and reds, the roots are chemically complex and can be manipulated in various ways to produce purples, browns and yellows. My attempts at growing madder root on my farm have been thwarted by cold winter temps but I have covered my madder bed with an extra thick layer of straw and it has survived two winter. There is joy in starting something from seed and growing it to ultimately use to dye my yarn. The pattern is @bristolivy #harpswellhat. #farmlife #growyourcolor #knowwhereyouryarncomesfrom #knittersofinstagram #madderroot #naturaldye #plantdye #mainefarms #yarnfarm #wool #knit #knitnaturally #mainemade #maine (at Lana Plantae Farmed Yarns)
