A couple weekends back, on a roadtrip North with no agenda, the van conveniently pulled over on Rt 1 for a stop at the @lienielsentoolworks facility. My first time visiting and a place where I’d imagine most traditional wood craftsmen/women would happily drain their account. Every piece of every tool, handle and blade, casted or CNC cut, then beautifully hand finished and checked twice before shipping out across the world. ~ Lingering long enough in the showroom, we lucked our way into a tour of the factory. I was immediately drawn to the meticulous organization of all the parts, at every step of the build process. Beautiful little wooden boxes, made in house, stacked and packed with finished pieces awaiting their next move. ~ In the fine furniture and small boat building worlds, Lie Nielsen has been well known for their quality hand tools since the early 80’s. Not so much in the modern surf world | Flash forward almost 40 years to today, @grainsurfboards, where all of the boards are hand built and fine tuned with these same beautiful tools that are made in Maine. Just a couple hours up the road from our shop. ~ 2020 in a world ruled by digital everything, there’s something so special about living in a place where quality products are still built by hand. One at time, to last a lifetime. . . . . . . . . #mainecoast #mainemade #handbuilt #woodensurfboard (at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7W7j2SgXZ-/?igshid=f6r6sqg6xo4p
