#knitting sampler

I made a teaching sampler for my IRL friend who's just learning how to knit. I think it's pretty neat & hope others can use it too 🥺🥰 (text of labels written out below the cut)

K2 Rib:

cast on a multiple of 4 (var: mult of 2 that is not also mult of 4)

............every row k2-p2-repeat

............(var: RS k2-p2-repeat; WS p2-k2-repeat)

Garter Stitch:

Cast on any number of sts

............k every stitch, every row. Easy-peasy.

Stockinette Stitch:

Cast on any number of sts

............RS: k all

............WS: p all

............note that the side edges of a stockinette piece will curl in dramatically unless they are sewn/joined to other material, or unless you mark out the first and last 3-6 sts of every row for a border section of a different pattern that lies flat, like garter stitch.

Seed Stitch aka* Moss Stitch:

Cast on an even number of sts

..............RS: k1-p1-repeat

..............(*these two names sometimes refer to two similar variants instead of the same pattern)

This is interesting.  Designer Laura Ayler knit a swatch with the same number of stitches and same yarn, but with different stitch patterns.  This is how it looks.
