Butler Wanted
Camry was stocky, with thick brown hair he hadn't yet figured out what to do with, and met Jacek in the park with a wide stance, arms crossed and his lips pursed. The beanie was indeed present. He also added a pair of black sunglasses to complete the confusing mix of chauffeur and gangster.
"This way, my man. Do you sweat? It's hot as balls out here."
The way to the mysterious meeting site was at first a well-established walking trail, but then diverged down a footpath hidden by overgrowth. Camry decided to warm up the interview process as they picked through the brush.
"So, man. Tell me, what is your previous employment experience?"
🌺!!
🌺 What does your OC do to calm down when they’re scared or after a nightmare? Do they have any special comfort items or need to be reassured by a specific person? How do they handle this if they’re alone?
Jean-Paul would argue that they’ve never been scared of anything in their life, actually. They’d thoroughly laugh at the idea that they’re anything less than completely in control of their feelings and presentation at all possible times. How absurd! They only experience fun, sexy emotions like excitement and satisfaction and that feeling you get when someone looks at your outfit in awe. Fear’s no good and pointless and anyway, they’re an immortal vaporvolph from a distant star, so why should they ever experience something so unfashionable as fear, hm? How utterly silly. If Jean-Paul ever thinks of being scared, he simply refrains and thinks more people should do that. Isn’t that the sensible thing to do?
JP is constantly anxious and also in complete denial that they’re scared and upset and uncomfortable most of the time, so they mostly channel that ever present fear into the following outlets: becoming completely absorbed into making watercolor art to the point that they block everything else out; buying very expensive home goods that they won’t even use because they rarely spend time in their actual home; wine; getting overwhelmed very minor things and then tearing apart said very expensive home goods; arbitrary and petty fights with other people for dumb reasons, though he’s doing better about avoid that; fleeing deep into the woods in volph form because being a person is hard and complicated but chasing birds is easy. In their true form, they constantly shiver but that increases when scared; when they’re very frightened in human form, they shake and cry. JP doesn’t understand why they cry so much and it confuses and distresses them.
They are terrible at self-soothing and most of what they do does very little to actually calm themself down. Luckily, their boyfriend’s perceptive and recognizes when they’re scared; Vladimir’s pretty good at coaxing him away from his more self-destructive tendencies. If this volph is frightened, he will gently persuade him to come home and drink some tea and let himself be wrapped up in five thousand blankets. It’s just that Vlad’s not around at all times and JP just hasn’t made the connection yet that they could deliberately seek out comfort when they’re scared, so they mostly just hole themself up in their office and make greeting cards instead.
🌺and 🌲For Su!!
🌺 What does your OC do to calm down when they’re scared or after a nightmare? Do they have any special comfort items or need to be reassured by a specific person? How do they handle this if they’re alone?
Susette does not have great coping mechanisms when it comes to being scared. Her only fear is really the Entity, and it is such an overwhelming, existential threat that she has to force herself to bury it. As a practically immortal creature, if she spent enough time with her feelings to truly sort through them, it’s possible she could be lost in it for centuries or more, same as her grief.
So she waits. Someday in the future, the Entity will be gone, and she can truly recover.
🌲 How deeply does your OC feel? Are they typically empathetic or do they have a hard time connecting with others in this way? What are they like when offering support and comfort to someone they care for?
Susette feels deeply and it hurts. She doesn’t like when creatures hurt or die, and she can’t stand to see them in pain. She wants to help and fix with every bone in her body, and she wants to run and play and revel in joy.
Susette has a hard time connecting with others by choice, subsuming all of her impulsive volphishness to be more ‘professional.’ This was a choice to keep her from being overwhelming or making light of serious issues she would be called on to help with. She was fortunate to have an empathetic instructor who taught her how to channel her eons of life and play into mindful care around others.
When caring for and supporting others, she throws her whole being into it. Whatever it takes. It’s likely a little overwhelming, and some of it is due to her fear of more loss and heartache. She will be a little over-protective and careful, and, in the case of romance, plenty of things she won’t think of or will need to understand, but you’ll never find a more willing pupil.
