lira will often pretend not to know the common tongue around strangers to see what information she can get out them. people are more likely to lower their guard and speak freely when they think you can’t understand them. she’ll also switch languages mid conversation to talk shit about you. sometimes she’ll respond in a language she knows the other person doesn’t understand just to be an asshole. while she knows the common tongue old norse is her mother tongue ( and whatever the skyrim alternative of that would be. )
in her modern verse because she’s spent so many years in new orleans she’s well versed in creole & a little french. english is her default but she also knows the norsk language. she’s been around since the viking era so she would still know old norse but doesn’t use it as often anymore. most of the languages spoken in modern day norse countries originated from old norse so there are differences but also similarities. when giving commands to her wolves she tends to use norsk because it’s less likely to be recognized.
