Inktober - Swift

Krialla loved physical training. She didn't have to struggle through textbooks and essays in a foreign language. It was just her body, finely tuned by years of evolutionary necessity, doing what it was made to do. The bi-weekly endurance exams were her favourite. A 5 kilometer obstacle course with each Cadet being marked on the total time it took them to complete it.

Speed came easy to the Kobjini, but the obstacles challenged her in wonderful new ways. On Asmir 6 it was enough to outrun a predator. Krialla learned in the first week that this wouldn't be enough in Starfleet. She had to build her strength, run far as well as fast, and manage to pull herself over, under and through the obstacles.

The first exam, held 2 weeks after the start of the semester, Krialla had failed miserably. And it lit a determined fire inside her. Gradually, as each exam came and went, the Kobjini climbed the ranks until she was setting records that set the whole campus abuzz.

Suddenly she wasn't the strange new alien on campus, she was the record setter, the fastest cadet in the class. Friends gave her nicknames: speedy, lightning, the flash. But it was Hebni that gave her the one that stuck. Va'ho, "swift wind".
