hey... which one of us is the real one, anyways?!
Paradise Lost? more like, Paradise Found.
I've read every book in this place. I've walked the length of my street at least a hundred times, and I've worn every single article of clothing in my entire wardrobe. The fact remains that nothing around here has changed in the days, weeks, months or even years that I've been here, and for some reason, this doesn't bother me.
The strange thing is... While this doesn't bother me, I am a person who enjoys variety. Not just any kind of variety, though- the last time I asked for any kind of variety, I ended up losing my memories, being put into a murder-filled spa. So... the good kind of variety is what I'm looking for.
I haven't ventured outside my little world yet. My street that goes both ways, but ends up fading to white on either side. Like a painting that's entirely unfinished. It's kind of annoying.
I decided one day, though, that I was going to try end go into the void. The endless white abyss. ... Sounds a bit like America. Oops.
So, anyways, I was getting ready to enter the void. I put on all my gear- my letterman jacket, an awful comfy shirt, some jeans, combat boots (they're my rain boots. pink, glittery, and covered in heart stickers.), my backpack and my bike helmet. The backpack was, of course, filled with the necessities- stickers, my magic wand, some snacks, and a roll of tape. ... Because I've learned that taking tape with you, wherever you go, is helpful.
Onwards into the void I went, belting the lyrics to some song whose name I forgot. And then, the strangest thing happened.
I took another step into white, and another color started showing up.
A few more steps, and I could tell that the white was mixing with lots of colors, which formed concrete. And a building. Several buildings. And I saw a sign that said, in like, English: NEW YORK PIZZA. ...So, I was in New York? Mind you, I'm still not all that fluent in English, but I could read some words. And those words said NEW YORK PIZZA. I did my best to consider who in my class would have a Paradise set in NYC, and then, it hit me.
No, seriously. It hit me. I smacked myself in the forehead and yelled, "DOI! Larry!!!" So, my search progressed. Down the street I jogged, until I had to give up on running because my feet couldn't hold onto the boots. These were LARGE boots. And I had small feet. Eventually, I ended up at a library. And I just had to assume that that's where Larry would be, since it's not like he was the SHSL Boxer or anything, right? Nah. He was the SHSL Horror Novel Enthusiast. That had to have been his title, since every time I asked him about what kind of books he liked, he showed me creepy stuff with monsters and junk. ...Not junk. What he likes isn't junk- it's lovely. Just. Creepy as hell.
So I entered the library, sliding my boots off at the entry. Not so much out of respect for the establishment, as I wasn't in Japan anymore, but... Those boots were squeaky! And I wanted to be sneaky, not squeaky. Onwards I went, tip-toeing down rows and rows of books and stuff until I saw it. That big... thing of hair. ... How was I supposed to get his attention?
I could have yelled "HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MR. CALLS-ME-RIGHT-AFTER-HE-KILLS-SOMEONE!" Or, "NEEEEEEEEEERD" But, by all standards, *I* was a nerd! So I couldn't do that. Maybe I could have done a tapdance or something to get his attention. If this was him. It had to be him! How many other people on Earth had afros the size of Earth itself?!
Instead of scaring him, I tip-toed up, and tapped his back. He was so engrossed in a book that it took me a little bit to even get his attention. Tap. Tap tap. Tap. And then it happened.
He turned his head and looked down at me.
Looking up with... the best smile I could muster, one hand was clasped around a backpack strap, and the other was up in greeting. And because my face was so red and I was pretty nervous, all I could say was, "Yo!" Yo. Yo?! What kind of greeting was THAT. Seriously. I could do better! I HAVE done better! Honestly.
... So, one thing led to another... and we ended up sitting on the floor. I won't deny that I had shrugged off my jacket and backpack and helmet and stuff, so it would be more comfortable, sitting with him in his nest of horror manga and novels. Occasionally I asked him what a word meant, or who Lovecraft was (just to see him furrow his brow and get frustrated for a sec before realizing that I was kidding) (I wasn't kidding. I have a well of knowledge at my mental disposal and I can't remember who Lovecraft is. It's a pain in the neck having to remember so many things because lots of other important stuff falls out).
And, y'know?
I might be dead and buried, and it might've been kinda awkward to talk to him again after so long, but... Paradise got a bit sweeter that day.
And I appreciate that.
