Kofi long ask for @death0core !
Something greater
Wolf's job is important, that much you know. You mulled over the way you both met while waiting for him on his ship. Wolf's life as an enforcer was to clean traces, hunt down bad bloods, to clean hives and just whatever preservation job there was to do. He was the first and the last line of defense of his species, of his culture.
You had managed to kill a xenomorph, a serpent. The yautja that was hired to protect the cargo you were transporting marked your face before dying, before pressing the buttons on his wrist gauntlet to call for Wolf, before everything went to shit.
Your whole crew died by the time Wolf arrived, but you had managed to lock yourself in the cockpit. He cleaned the ship within a couple hours while you kept the ship from crashing.
By the end of everything, you had nowhere to go, the ship had no fuel, plus the fact that just about every friend of yours was dead somewhere in the ship.
"Please, please don't leave me here." You begged, finding that you couldn't produce anymore tears, but your body made up for that by shaking uncontrollably. "Just-, don't leave me alone, please."
You were sure he was going to do just that. To take his fallen comrades body and leave you there with your own, until he grunted and made a small, small gesture with his hand for you to follow. You didn't hesitate.
When walking into Wolf's ship, your body all but collapsed onto the nearest surface, the fight or flight mode wearing off as some sense of security hit you like a rock. You made sure to stay as quiet and small as possible, not wanting to give Wolf any excuse to leave you behind.
He asked you questions about the accident during the trip, which you answered in detail. He gave you time when you choked up and guided you away from a panic attack more than once during it.
You didn't expect a drop of sympathy from a hardened enforcer such as Wolf, but it was just what you found. How odd was it that the most humanity you'd ever seen and felt came from an alien?
Still, Wolf never left your side, even when you reached yautja prime and your nightmarish aftermath had begun.
As for your ship, you didn't want to do anything with it anymore Wolf, not after what happened. Wolf told you it was scrapped and your friends were cremated. Proper burials were made and you were grateful for that. You never imagined yautjas could be so…understanding. Especially Wolf.
It was almost a trade. You received credits for the scrapped ship, as if Wolf himself had bought it from you.
Days had passed and you had no idea what to do. You never left Wolf's ship during the stay in Yautja prime, you knew they were being more than generous by allowing your presence here. You also knew this was Wolf's doing directly.
You scratched the healing chiva mark on your cheek when Wolf came to talk to you again. You knew what he was going to say. You had credits, your friends were buried and as much as you didn't have a ship, you had money, all you needed was a ride somewhere, which was just what he offered you.
He had another job which was somewhat close to a space station. You felt anxious. Your stay with him was short, but you feared leaving his side after everything you had been through, call it ptsd or just a human being human, but you felt your chest tighten when you thought about thanking him and saying goodbye.
The ride there was long but Wolf didn't go into hyperspace, neither did he speed the ship. You hugged your arms to yourself as he hit the autopilot and came to sit by your side.
"I wanted to...thank you for everything, before we-, well, before we part ways." Your voice is quiet, you fear the way it could break if you spoke louder.
He nods, fingers running through the ridges of his wrist gauntlet. "I would say that you're my friend and I'll see you around but...I don't think that's how it goes between people like us…I don't want to go..." You trail off, feeling your eyes start to sting, he stills.
You don't trust yourself to say anything more, tears threatening to spill. You close your eyes and sigh, opening them again when you feel Wolf's fingers caressing the mark on your cheek, then wiping the tear that falls away.
"You don't have to."
-
"Treasure."
You jump up a bit, looking back at the door to see Wolf standing there, sleep still evident in his eyes, clutching his side, still sore from the last hive he cleaned a few days ago. "Nightmares again?"
"Hey," You smile as he walks over. You get up and wrap your arms around him, mindful of his side, kissing his bare chest as his fingers closed around the base of your head, gentle and reassuring. "Not this time, not for a long time, thanks to you," he purrs, deep and rumbly. He only purrs like this to you, only with you.
Always for you.
