The Right Ending?- Koji Ayase- Part 1
Part one of a two-parter with Ayase <3, my lovely Ayase
When it had happened was still sort of a mystery how it had happened, and you couldn't put a finger on when it had happened. And despite all suggestions you knew that you and him must be the best thing, with just how deeply in love with him you found yourself, he drove you so insane, wanting to begin a perfect romance with him.
From the start, he'd shown interest in you in his own perfectly sweet clumsy manner, and he'd gotten you to the point of being perfectly in love, it felt like he was some sort of heartthrob from the way he made your heart pound. Yet despite the way in which he'd shown interest in you, you were too scared to tell him, allow the Bidders to know of your love, while all you wanted was for Koji to become the Montehughe to your Capulet heart. Never had you expected to be terrified of having your heart broken, or of the guys in front of you, but the idea of betraying by falling for Koji, you didn't want to see how they'd react.
As you debated what you truly deserved with your want for love racing through your thoughts you gripped your teacup tighter, sighing out loud, grabbing the attention of Baba as you pulled the cup to your lips taking a sip.
Finally taking note of the Thief calling your name, you simply offered a nod in his direction, driving your thoughts away from your failing love for Koji for a moment, for the main reason why you'd met him, and yet the main reason you couldn't love him,
"Are you alright pretty lady?" He offered and you simply nodded even though you heard him continue you thought about Baba specifically, how would it affect him if you surrender to your love for Koji. All he wanted to do was capture the Thief in front of you? Would he use you to capture Baba? Would he hurt Baba or you just for the sake of a case? You couldn't stop yourself from thinking like this, just to try and save your heart, to try and force him from your head; in an attempt to find yourself less in love with him. And yet, it all felt like little more than a futile effort with your imagination gifting you pictures of you and he locked in a tight embrace, lips locked tenderly. Maybe you could love him without telling the others, wasting your time with him while keeping him your very own dirty little secret, but the idea felt wrong.
Both Baba's aimless rambles and your own meaningless romantic fantasies were broken by the sound of your phone on the table, Koji's ringtone blasting out like nothing else even mattered. Before you had a chance to grab for your phone Baba has swept it up, leaving you to jump to try and grab for it as he holds it above your head, and as you gasped for the air, Baba held it, unlocking the device in a single moment and reading through the short text,
"You up for drinks tonight, I'll buy- Love Koji'
As Baba read the text aloud you watched the faces of the bidders change as though the finally realised who Koji was, and just what you were doing, it was as though you were playing with fire, but Baba's was the one that held a look of shock and betrayal as he watched you carefully.
"Koji? Koji Ayase" He whispered as his hand fell, allowing you to grab your phone from his hands, slipping it into your pocket before any more mistakes could be made. Your head facing the floor, feeling as though your eyes could create holes in the floorboards avoiding the cold almost harsh glare from Baba in this moment, shifting a hand up combing hair behind your ear, attempting to hide the bright flush on your cheeks as you thought about the text, you were going, far too in love with Koji to even think about refusing and yet in this moment you knew you had other issues to deal with.
"Why is Ayase asking you out?" Baba offered, seeming darker than he ever had before,
"I-" Before you could say anything more, a barrage of question sprung from the rather intrigued artist,
"A date with a detective eh, (Y/N)? Doing alright aren't you? How long has this been happening behind our backs? Do you not think you should have told us all you were seeing the little detective?" A little off put by these sudden reactions you took a few steps back admiring the rest of the room, Eisuke was watching with a smirk lining his face, Mamoru couldn't look any less uninterested, and Soryu seemed to have gone back to his book,
"Why Ayase?" Ota and Baba seemingly chorused, Ota with a grin while Baba seemed more than a little confused,
"We just- sometimes- I mean- There are the times when we-" Completely lost, you let a sigh slip through your lips as your brain tried to catch up with your tongue.
"Explain so we understand" Eisuke piped up, the teasing tone lining his voice, turning around you glared at him as you took in a deep breath trying to catch up,
"We're friends, just friends, I met him with Baba one day and then, sometimes, he invites me out to drink with him" You whispered, cheeks flushing as you think about him, the whisper of him being just a friend more of an attempt to convince yourself than to convince him.
"Just a friend, eh?" Ota offered, stepping closer to you and offering you a jab to your ribs, along with the sarcastic jab to his words.
Allowing a nervous giggle to slip through your lips as you run a hand through your hair the colour darkening as Ota poked holes into your just a friend statement,
"Because by calling him just a friend, you're doing something rather redundant. Do you want him? Are you in love with him?" He asked, a smirk to his words, one that would look more at home on Eisuke's face, but twisting away from him to face Eisuke and Soryu on their sofa you took note that the smirk was at home on Eisuke,
"I don't- I mean" You couldn't lie, unfortunately, unable to bring yourself to about how you loved him, thinking about how you spend some nights hanging on beside the phone, the lies weren't working for you already.
"You don't what, love the little detective?" Baba asked you, turning back to him, you felt as though you were being bullied from all sides as he grinned down at you,
"We all know Ayase likes you, but you liking him too, that's a shock" Eisuke whispered, it seemed as though it was more to himself than to you,
"We wouldn't be the right kind of thing though, would we? Me and Ayase, I can't imagine it working out, and I don't want to ruin the way he makes my hear throb" You whispered to yourself, tearing your gaze from the lot of them and staring down at the floor, not wanting to be teased, you wanted him but you weren't sure how ready you were to risk it all, even as you fantasized about his lips on yours, his hands all over you, and the date he's now offered you, drinking whiskey alongside the man.
"What if it was suggested that you and he might just be the best thing?" Baba offered with a smirk gracing his lips, pulling your phone from your pocket with a quick movement that meant nothing,
"So you're in love with Ayase, he's clearly in love with you, why not give it a go?"
Plucking your phone from Baba's hands you let a sigh slip through your lips, as you told Koji you'd meet him, a red flushing your cheeks,
"And what am I meant to do, just shout at him how I love him?" You asked him with a soft smile gracing your lips, a red flush shining on your cheeks,
"I've been waiting for him to ask me, or confess to me, give me a sign that risking everything would be worth it" You whispered, voice weak and breaking as you ran a hand through your hair,
"What would you do Baba? Would you really risk your own heart? What if he uses me as a quick fling? Or what if it ruins this, what if he uses me to get to you guys? What if this is all just a game?" You questioned him, tears breaking their banks as you thought about all the risks that you may take for a quick fling, the risks it might mean for the bidders.
"He wouldn't, he's clumsy and rather ridiculous but I can't imagine he'd hurt you" Baba whispered to you as he gathered you in his arms, holding you close him, rubbing his hand up and down your back.
As you calmed down you thought about the sunsets you could spend together, wrapped up in a romance, the way in which he makes you smile, he makes you laugh, sharing this picture perfect romance with you.
Moonlight, with a whiskey, strolling slightly drunk, imagine it, a confession bringing you your final happy ending with Koji.
This was your chance to get your ending right.
