Origin: Spirits of the Past, also called Giniro no Kami no Agito (Silver Haired Agito) is a post apocalyptic sci fi fantasy anime film made by Studio Gonzo in 2006. Character designs are by Kouji Ogata. Said apocalypse was caused by plant experiments on the moon's surface that went horribly wrong, gained sapience and descended to earth.

300 years after that event, the Forest is a powerful entity that holds most of the power on the planet. A boy named Agito lives In a relatively peaceful town called Neutral City built from ruins of the past world and one day accidentally wakes Toola from her underground cryostasis pod. She is from that world of 300 years past and sees how the world has vastly changed and is forced to grapple with that. Crucially: there was one other awakened from the past 5 years before, and his name is Shunack, a current member of the Ragna army, who lived in Neutral City formerly, he claims he can help Toola restore the world.

There are sapient tree people/dragons, plant superpowers that double as plant body horror, a communal town built out of ruins, a short bulletproof twink in a crop top fighting advanced military war machines, stunning animation and music (op and ed are by KOKIA) and really subtle and interesting world building. I would call a lot of the concepts and the message in this Solarpunk in all honesty.

It’s post apocalypse with a focus on hope for the future and letting go of the idealized past. Oh and a lot about embracing the non-normative body

I have a lot of trans and otherwise queer headcanons of the characters, especially Agito as a trans guy. You’ll see that often on this blog (there is arguably trans coding in Agito’s enhanced transformation. Enough that I wrote an essay on it)

Youtube apparently thinks I'm the only person who likes both ClariS (They made songs for Cells at Work and Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and Myth & Roid (They made songs for Re:Zero and Overlord) cause no matter how much I listen to them, the algorithm refuses to make a mix album with both.

My efforts and experience to get the algorithm to form a link between the two goes:

Play lots of ClariS songs. Now Youtube knows to recommend playlists of their songs

Play lots of Myth & Roid. Now Youtube knows to recommend playlists of their songs

Alternate between them between songs. No integration.

Play more ClariS. Nothing.

Play more Myth & Roid. Playlists start adding a band called Mili (Mili and M&R did a song together one time).

Listen to tons of Mili. Youtube recommends mix tracks of Mili and M&R

Listen to ClariS. Youtube doesn't mix ClariS with anything.

Listen to more M&R. Ender Lillies OST gets recommended (Mili made the soundtrack).

Listen to tons of Ender Lilies. That gets integrated to Mili and M&R

Buy Ender Lilies. Beat it in a month. Remember what I was originally doing.

More ClariS. The playlists now have ClariS, Mili, and Ender Lilies. No M&R.

Play Mili. Start getting Made in Abyss Soundtrack (M&R made some songs for it)

Nier Automata OST randomly shows up one day. I can't find any discernable reason for that happening.

Play more ClariS. Playlist finally shows M&R.

Wait no, it's a playlist of ClariS and Made in Abyss. No non-MiA M&R are here.

Discover at some point M&R removed most of their songs (Likely due to the band leader leaving)

At this point Youtube will make playlists of ClariS, MiA, Ender Lilies, Nier, and Mili; or M&R, MiA, Ender Lilies, Nier, and Mili. Still refuses to mix ClariS and M&R.

New ClariS song comes out. Listen to it nonstop.

Youtube decides the new ClariS song should be associated with M&R and not ClariS.

M&R restores all its songs. Have to start all over.

New band Kokia suddenly appears in playlists.

Listen to tons of Kokia.

ClariS is now willing to associate with M&R but only the songs that weren't previously removed.

M&R still refuses to associate with ClariS though.

This has been a minor pet project for nearly a year now. I have made almost no progress but have found tons of music I love so it's not a total waste.

Hello i want to ask about the song Arigatou no anata ni. I'm vietnamese and my english isn't good enough. I'm so sorry. Ummm, do you mind about this?. I hope not hehe. I only find 1 video on youtube about this song and 1 video cover. I really really love this song but both videos are in japanese name so i can not find it if i use another youtube account or use others device. Can i ask why don't they popularize this song? Like Hontou no oto or Fukurou. And i can't find any informations about this song on google except your blog.Why this happens. Can i know that.And, byeee. I hope to see your reply soon. See you soon

I'm so sorry, I didn't get a notification about your message earlier. I hope you haven't been waiting for too long!

That is indeed an obscure song! KOKIA wrote Arigatou o anata ni in 2012, for the 2012 Japan Junior Chamber Summer Conference. It was released as a single, but it was only on their website, not KOKIA's own web shop or in stores. She performed the song at the closing ceremony of the conference in 2012, and possibly a couple of times after that. She hasn't mentioned the song since. Basically, all information I know can be found here on kokiafans. As you can see, it's not a lot.

My guess is that, unlike Hontou no oto and Fukurou, KOKIA wrote this song for someone else, not for release on one of her own albums. She may not have the rights to use it again or to promote it. Or she may not want to, because she feels it was exclusive for that event. As far as I know, we don't have an official explanation, so this is the best I can do.
