Don’t know how much this is worth even posting but what the hell, here’s my two-cents of feedback to YouTube:
“Your AI-generated age verification system is nothing but predatory. Why prey through our search and watch histories unprovoked? Why put trust upon one of the most historically faulty and hallucinogenic systems, let alone one of your own? And why implement this for the “protection of children”, even though the algorithms of this service have historically exploited as many children as it has exploited the political division of this country?
“If YouTube was serious about kids’ safety, it would’ve taken more proper time to inform and give parents further means to secure that safety on their own behalf - they are after all *their* children, not yours. This AI-implementation is as much a knee-jerk reaction as you finally banning Alex Jones and InfoWars off the platform just because the families of the slaughtered Sandy Hook children were going to sue him in court, which also would’ve landed you squarely accountable for allowing that man to spread falsehoods and conspiracies about real murdered children for profit.
“Don’t be cute. You still have that blood money.”
The type of shit that happens when people think "Dinosaurs are for Kids"
It's incredible how the next thing YouTube does is always worse than the last; seriously, it's become comical at this point.
post about mrbeast and youtube monopoly just reminded me of my favorite firefox extension. A lot of others (esp with adhd or similar disorders) would probably benefit from this too, but may not have thought to look for it.
its called unhook, and it completely removes the recommendations section on the main page of youtube. this is what it looks like on my phone but i have it on my desktop too
it has basically reduced my "completely forgot time exists and lost myself to the abyss of Endless Video" episodes to once or twice a month, when i accidentally end up on shorts through someone im subscribed to.
i can just go straight to the searchbar or the 'subscribed' page without being immediately distracted by whats taking up the rest of the screen.
and when there is no recommendations or trending page, there is no algoritm to fuck up by a specific search you did one time or a series of videos you watched earlier but have no interest in outside of that. no 'trending', no clickbait or ragebait, no breaking news, no doomscrolling.
it also blocks the recommendations that appear under any specific video you are watching, like this:
there are loads more options for what to filter! i also have ads, banners and notifications turned off to further simplify the UI and reduce distraction.
shorts can likewise be hidden, but this removes them from any type of search or page, so thats something i personally chose not to enable.
ive used this extension for well over 6 months now, and never experienced any bugs or issues as far as i can tell. just bliss.
i dont really do this normally cause thats not the type of following/mutuals i have but it deserves to get a small shoutout anyway.
(also gonna tag the fuck out of it in the hopes it will help more people find it)
Hey guys the recent animation only got 2k views in 6 hours to all my Followers pls go watch it, it truly means a lot❤️
Apparently simply acknowledging that gambling exists is promoting it🫠
what was that about YouTube not being a casino and trying to be addictive well you know hiding a video behind age restriction that literally explains how that's exactly what you're doing or my point people towards what you're doing while you're in the middle of a social media addiction trial I'm not wanting to say that they're covering their tracks but they are totally covering their tracks
Hello everyone!! I made a YouTube channel if anyone would like to check it out 💟
One of the very few good things I'll praise youtube for
Regardless of how much or how little I use the "don't recommend me this" feature, I'll usually see at least one or two videos with only a few hundred views from very small channels in the sidebar each day. Even if I never watch most of them(the 'tism heavily biases me towards what I already know), the mere fact that youtube is promoting smaller channels at all is a very, very good thing. It shouldn't have to just be the bigger guys like Jacksfilms or the Critical Drinker having to do shout-outs all the dang time in order to help boost smaller creators. That's real great that they're doing that, but it ain't they're job to do so; it's Youtube's. And now it finally looks like they're doing it.
