Bukotsu Kanjiya - Kodoku’s Brute
The brute from last samurai standing x black reader
Author’s Note - Simply a Drabble for now - unsure whether to continue just for fun - only used this character cause of how bout crazy he is and would like to see a calm and calculated verses loud and erratic dynamic.. I have a lot in the works and not much time to spend on them, as I’m also working on Wattpad stories and school work.
The cool winds sailed through the trees mixed with the metallic scent of blood and screams mingled within the upcoming town you planned to pass by, the wooden tag weighing heavily across your neck as a reminder of the kill or be killed competition that you were in.
No way out except Death as the guards were always watching, even from a distance. No exposing the truth, as your life would be forfeited, nor even removing the tag for ten seconds. Yet your gaze was pulled away from the lingering guards with their firearms discreetly drawn among their half hidden forms from civilians.
Your attention was brought back toward the thicker scent of blood and horrified screams that spread in the air as multiple wooden tags clacked and clicked against one another, not from multiple individuals, only one of them.
The brute slayer that was named Kanjiya, Bukotsu was nearby. Only player of the Kodoku game who would purposely kill bystanders, simply because he’s bored, or in search of a new plaything apart of the kodoku.
Seems he would find it within you for now. A startled scream was pulled from a woman’s throat, as you looked up the stairs you were climbing to see a body of a slain bystander rolling down in a trail of red, others of the village were quickly fleeing past you with only a few, while a low yet rough voice clawed against your ears.
“Old man, seen a little girl with a samurai passing through?”
Before a startled and fearful response could even be heard, the squelch of flesh torn and blood painting itself along a thicker blade was seen, the glint of the dark fluid slowly pooling down and sticking to the tip of the blade being pulled from the fallen man, the full frame of Kanjiya caught your eyes from beneath your strawhat, seeing the six foot two brute dressed within tattered clothing along with his locked disheveled hair and blood stained skin, as he held a sadistic smirk upon his lips.
Then his gaze drifted toward you as he wordlessly pointed the sword toward you, or rather to the wooden tag around your neck, as he slowly turned to face you fully while pulling his sword back toward his side.
“You. The one they call the man eater….. have you seen Kokusho the manslayer and the little girl with him?” His gruff voice rang out as he swayed a bit from his right foot to his left while slowly stepping closer, a eager and lazy smirk rested on his lips, as he saw your hand slowly beginning to hover over your katana.
“Kokusho the Manslayer …… his old title is unfamiliar on my tongue, and within my mind, yet the new man he seems to be can be found far from here.” Slow and thoughtful words fell from your lips as you were contemplating on whether or not to shift your stance in a challenge to the long disgraced and dishonored samurai, while the sun casted a glint across your dark brown gaze.
He stood silent for a moment as his gaze roamed over your body language, trailing back up to your half obscured face. “How far?” He demanded as he was already inching forward only a bit, not bothering to reach for his blade, despite the instinctual bloodlust thrumming in his body, as he seemed to be weighing his options.
“If you actually cared for the outcome Brute, then you would have realized toward the next checkpoint, same as any other. Yet you don’t care for the reward it seems, only for bloodshed and fear.” Slowly you shifted your stance toward the left as you held a hand over your katana, while you started walking up toward him, only sidestepping him as you stood beside him.
“If the tales of the manslayer are true, then he will not be dormant for much longer, if you continue engaging with him. You can only stoke a fire so much, until it eventually fades or blazes.” Last few words caught along the wind in Kanjiya’s ear, as he let out a grunt about to turn toward you with his sword slowly beginning to raise, yet you were already gone.
Leaving him to his own devices, knowing it was only his nature to have bloodshed around him, this encounter with him was not lucky….. only plain ignorance to waste precious time on him in this game of Kodoku, knowing the next encounter may very well be either of your last.
Sides, the brute takes great interest in bloodshed and rivalries, and how is this not a challenge.
Battles and killing is what he loved, so he wouldn’t be opposed to letting it finally kill him.
But only a worthy opponent would kill him, not a weak opponent who can’t even fight properly and give him a challenge.
So who would the Man eater be to him, easy Prey or Predator?
