**Admin of anarchist Mastodon server #Kolektiva raided by FBI, insecure user data gets seized**
According to the admin who reported the incident, the raid took place in mid-May and the backup was dated from the first week of May. User data that the FBI will now have access to includes:
• User account information like the e-mail address associated with your account, your followers and follows, etc.
• All your posts: public, unlisted, followers-only, *and direct ("DMs")*.
• Possibly IP addresses associated with your account - IP addresses on Kolektiva.social are logged for 3 days and then deleted, so IP addresses from any logins in the 3 days prior to the database backup date would be included.
• A hashed ("encrypted") version of your password.
The admin that announced the capture of his comrade (Kolektiva is an anti-colonial anarchist collective) said that as a precaution users should change their password to something “new, unique, and strong” and change their two-factor authentication if they had that switched on.
hi, i miss your presence on facebook. will you be returning?
We're still on Facebook:
Anarchist Dreams with Queer Satanic Themes
Satanic Antifascism
At the moment, Evergreen Memes for Queer Satanic Fiends is on pause, tho, because after more than two and a half years, The Satanic Temple filed a preliminary injunction against it.
On the advice of our lawyers, we're just not doing anything with the page while we wait for the judge to rule on their motion, which we've replied to.
More on all that here:

We're trying out Mastodon (again).
Mastodon has styled itself primarily as a Twitter alternative, and it sort of is.
But it's also a bit like the old Web 1.0 forums mixed with email because an "Instance" (server) is controlled by a particular person or community with its own rules, and these can "federate" with other Instances or choose not to do that. Therefore, an odious Instance that privileges "free speech absolutism" or un-spoilered scat porn or straight up spam is more likely to be cut off from the others.
Well-moderated instances are more labor-intensive but also feasible since they can be smaller communities where moderators actually know the people involved. Like old forums or Discords today, you may join multiple Instances based on the sort of content, focus, or vibe they have, but unlike Discord, it's not as subject to the whims of corporate overlords affecting everyone at once.
Which also makes each one less stable and subject to colony collapse. But c'est la vie ("luh vee").
If you know other good Instances, please suggest them. Otherwise, here's a little bit on this one, an anarchist server called Kolektiva.Social:
A BRIEF HISTORY OF KOLEKTIVA
Kolektiva was launched in June of 2020 by anarchist media collectives Antimídia and subMedia with the aim of developing autonomous, digital communication infrastructure for the movements we support and participate in. It soon expanded into an informal organization with members based in a handful of places all around the world. Kolektiva's first project was a PeerTube instance, Kolektiva.media. Its purpose was to offer a free, non-corporate platform for anarchists and anti-colonial content producers looking to bypass Google, Facebook, and other surveillance capitalist firms, as well as censorship mandated and enforced by governments. When Facebook began purging a number of pages associated with anarchist and antifascist projects in July 2020, Kolektiva set up a Mastodon instance.
THE GOALS OF KOLEKTIVA
Kolektiva exists to provide digital infrastructure for anarchist and anti-colonial movements. We seek to enable as many people as possible to share news and information without relying on centralized and heavily-surveilled platforms*. We are motivated in this work by the principle of internationalism, and a desire to increase communication and collaboration across state-imposed borders and linguistic divides. Over the coming year (2021), we hope to scale up the project in a number of ways:
By encouraging a continued exodus of anarchists and other anti-capitalists/anti-colonialists away from corporate platforms towards independent, open-source alternatives such as those offered by Kolektiva.
By producing instructional videos for new users, and resources for those seeking to set up their own instances
By building up our physical server infrastructure and technical capacity
By expanding and diversifying our moderation team
By experimenting with adding additional ActivityPub platforms, such as Mobilizon and PixelFed
By introducing a new framework to better organize content and facilitate translation
KOLEKTIVA.SOCIAL CODE OF CONDUCT
Coming up with this policy has been a bit of a balancing act. On the one hand, we do not want to make too many hard-and-fast rules. We are anarchists, and therefore, we do not care to think too long about how to govern every aspect of how people should behave. On the other hand, we won't allow our collective resources to be used to spread ideas that go against our values. To this end, we have come up with the following guidelines. We plan on adapting and changing these guidelines over time, and are open to feedback, critique, and suggestions from other Mastodon users, moderators and administrators.
