Vegan Sarawakian Kolo Mee
Went to NorthPoint City for early dinner and came across this recently opened Traditional Sarawak Kolo Mee (传统砂拉越格罗面) in the basement food street. Kolo Mee is Malaysian dish of dry noodles tossed in a savoury pork and shallot mixture, topped off with fragrant fried onions originated from the state of Sarawak, characteristically light and tossed in a transparent sauce.
Explained to mum the availability of the dishes on the menu and she chose the S$6.90 ala carte Chicken Cutlet Kolo Mee (炸鸡排格罗面). I opted for the less common Black Pepper Smoked Duck Kolo Mee (黑胡椒烟熏鸭格罗面) at S$6.50 a bowl. Kolo mee noodles are springier than wantan noodles and these came topped with crispy deep-fried pork lards which only served to enhance the overall flavour profile.
