maybe it's because I'm seeing everything after the steam port renaissance and things are more modern and everyone's younger but I don't like how everybody forgets about how the midnight channel is still a tv channel and they don't really lean into rhat. literally one of the first few things the IT say about yukikos castle is that it's a cheap tv show film set for a corny program. the castle could have wallpaper with patterns that don't repeat properly because it wasn't properly applied. yukikos costume reflects light with a weird sheen because it's made of cheap costume satin instead of actual royal silk or whatever. her crown is made of plastic and the gems fall off at some point. yosuke trips on cables and wires scattered around and has a whole section of the wall fall down and rogue shadows just scatter like bugs after getting scared watching through the cracks of the plywood. kanjis bathhouse is both grossly humid hot from the steam and disgustingly cold because of the fog it's not comfortable at all. there's plumbing problems and the last fight with shadows got the vinyl to rip and one hall flooded with water. it smells more of new plastic and electrical failure smoke than woody steam. there's glitter absolutely everywhere in rise's striptease and nanako asks why it's all over bancho's uniform every time he comes home. the lights flicker because some gaffer in the back didn't plug in the power strip properly. shadow rise got annoyed her voice wasn't coming through the PA so she smacked the console until it worked again. you can still smell the paint from the spray painted decals in naoto's bunker because that hall was just constructed recently. even the smell of glue lingers in the air from decorations being stuck to the walls and see nails and staples sticking out of wooden or foam props. the leds in the torches in mitsuo's video game in the previous floor are already dead because they were bargain bin novelty battery powered lights because it was all they could afford. the IT could walk in a different direction entirely and the catwalk they're following ends up at a tv studio filming nonsense ads from people's dreams akin to that milk commercial or long long man or something. the shadow selves don't read the fine print on the midnight tv station entertainment lease contract whatever. the tv world is not osha regulated. there is actual gunpowder set in naoto's bunker and if the IT did anything else wrong the whole studio could've blown up sooner that anticipated. nobody is paid.
