For kommunitydogpile
H, E, L, P
H: A song that reminds me of my childhood. Martian Boogie by Brownsville Station
E: A song by a band I’ve seen live. Edgar Winter’s Frankenstein covered by They Might Be Giants in an encore
L: An instrumental song. The previous answer would work here too, but I’ll go with Brendan Number 1 by Fugazi
P: A song I’d recommend based on your blog. Reptiles by Them Crooked Vultures
kommunitydogpile replied to your post:So I am really liking Gotham
Honestly, this part of Bat-history is fairly wide open still. There are bits and pieces, a couple of EXCELLENT vignettes, most less excellent, and largely to a one retconned … young Bruce in this era isn’t heavily trod territory though.
I agree. But like I said earlier they need to stop visiting Kid Bruce every episode, otherwise it will over power all the other characters in the show.
kommunitydogpile replied to your post:On writing against your gender identity....Questions of authenticity by opinion.
The question gets at whether there are differences (possibly, inequalities) between the genders, otherwise, besides the obvious it rarely matters. When dealing with the ‘obvious’ consult those who know, and write the story as it needs to be told.
Well that is the standard bearer for artistic expression. To not dwell on the issue and just go with the muse, instincts, whatever. But the one story I have written with a female protagonist I really like, but I'd hate it if it felt inauthentic and thus lead people to not like her. Plus it is important to put this representation in the science fiction and comic book literature, because it is populous consumption media and representation does matter. But then again I want to write a good story. Part of my method is bringing authentic descriptions and motifs. I mean if she were to get pregnant or have her period I could reach out and ask how those physical pains feel but that is very surface stuff. What about thought processes? Like if she were to walk down the street is she going to always be afraid of being accosted? I wouldn't think so initially because I just need her to go from point A to point B but what if she has to make considerations about that because that is the very real experience? Is it always present? Is there more than just the fear of being accosted? Is there a time of day that it is better than others like night time maybe obvious but what about morning rush hour? Or the lull in the middle of the afternoon when people are less likely to be about?
And I know, "just write the damn thing already" and part of this shines a light on my own issues of wanting information to congeal a whole experience, sort of what Stanley Kubrick became after filming 2001, and I feel that happening to me. It's gotten worse since the instant information i can grab from the internet, which is constantly shifting. In the end I seem paralyzed. The more I learn the less confident I seem to be.
kommunitydogpile answered to your post “Should I go swimming?”
Is there a reason you should not go swimming? I say, WHY NOT!
It was late in the afternoon and the place i was going to go swimming is about 40 minutes away. But I did go, by myself - well I took my dog. We had a good time. Wish I could have stayed longer and had some company with us.
kommunitydogpile replied to your post:You guys on Tumblr are all a bit kinky!!!
All of us? Really? Do I enjoy this kink? Cuz if I do, then YEAH!!!! But no … not so much over here, I mean, I have my interests, but nothing that plays out in any sort of exciting way. Unless you include my butler fetish …
Ok you, like myself, just want to hold hands and cuddle. But everyone else....
kommunitydogpile replied to your post:bevismusson reblogged your photo and added: Prince...
I call fibs.
I mean to each their own. But I wouldn't even think of competing with Prince on any level.
Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just ones that have touched you. Then tag ten other folks etc. etc. you all know how this goes
Do Androids Dream of electric Sheep
Great Expectations
Don Quixote
The Foundation
The Hobbit
A Wrinkle in Time
Left Hand of Darkness
Women at the Edge of Time
The Awakening
Stranger in a Strange Land
