Can You Hear My Voice?
She wasn't the type to be noticed by others; in fact she didn't mind it at all. But when he notices her, it's something different. An AU where college boy Jungkook meets part time coffee shop employee and part time singer IU/Jieun during one performance in her workplace.
In the midst of my mulit-chaptered story (Hello, Goodbye), I decided to go off track a bit and create this story! {You can read it here also, on my AFF}
Inspiration: Before I fell asleep last night, I immediately thought of this concept. I took a choir class back in high school and I was only interested in singing the melody part (soprano) of a song, probably because it was easy. It wasn't until last year (I'm no longer in high school so that was few years back) when I became really into singing the harmony part, or the second part/voice of a song; it's really fun to do because you get to try to sing different notes to make a song harmonious. I hope you all enjoyed this because I thought this was pretty cute, lol.
Pairing: IU/Lee Jieun and Jeon Jungkook of BTS
2.3k~ words
Pretty “fluffy”, probably
Finished this within an hour but didn’t get the chance to upload it until now!
Important notes before reading: I assume this story would be best understood by those who have experience in producing music or in vocal practices, OR those who understand what harmonizing means. In this specific story, IU/Lee Jieun is part of a two-man group for her coffee shop event (she works here too!) in which she harmonizes with the main singer, the soprano, while Jieun remains as the alto, the one who supports the soprano. In most cases, the alto usually sings a lower note than the singer who remains on the melodious part of a song. Sometimes, the alto will sing on a higher note, depending on how the harmony will sound. Singing in second voice isn't easy, actually, it's pretty hard to do. Yes, any person can sing a note different from the first voice, but it's hard to control because it has to match, it has to harmonize with the other parts. I'll fix this description soon because I feel like I'm missing out on more details; I tried to make this as short as possible so it'll be easier for others to understand! So anyways, that's the gist of it! I'm quite disappointed to see that those who actually harmonize with others don't get much credit/acknowledgment because they're usually the ones that don't get noticed + are the reason why they make a song sound so good. Without further ado, I hope you all enjoy reading! Do leave comments or send messages about what I can approve on or the like ~
She wasn't used to people noticing her and in fact, she didn't mind. She loved singing, and that was all she focused on. She loved singing with her friend on the small stage setup by her coffee shop coworkers on Thursday evenings and she especially loved the small crowd with their endless gaze. She loved the fact that the small crowd slowly bobbed their heads sideways as they listened to the duo's voices; she loved it so much. Most importantly, she loved that everything was small: she didn't like things that attracted too much attention because it was quite exhausting. She loved the small, soft smell of croissants smeared with butter and the whiff of sweet cappuchinos during those evenings; she loved the small, soft noises that her coworkers made when mixing coffee with a silver spoon that often clashed with a mug, and she especially loved hearing the small hums of a person within the audience as they try to sing along on with them on stage. She loved singing under the dimmed lights as she softly strum the strings of her peach colored guitar. She loved the fact that her friend would often softly tap on the floor with her worn out flats as a way to keep them both on rhythm; she especially loved this because it sounded like raindrops falling on the rooftop. She loved this, that, and everything else. Today was another special Thursday evening for her. After 6pm, she quickly pressed down the coffee machine's button to produce a hazelnut blended macchiato and served it to her last customer. She smiled her usual bright smile and bowed to her co-worker, who replaced her next shift. She hurriedly walked towards the backroom and slowly pulled on the string that held her uniform together. Although the scent of coffee still lingered on her body, she didn't mind at all. Yes, it was bitter, but it remained as a sweet scent to her. She patted down her uniform and inserted it into her locker and changed into a casual outfit that best described tonight's performance. She tied her hair up, grabbed her guitar and left. She talked quietly with her partner as the waited for their other co-workers to set up the stage, along with the microphones. Soft claps welcomed the women: one carrying her usual guitar and the other co-worker, or friend, wearing the same worn out flat, as they walked on stage with smiles. The greeted the small audience with a genuine grin and sat comfortably on their stools. The woman made eye contact with her friend and smiled; this was the sign to introduce themselves once more. The two women inched closer towards their mic that was supported by a stand. The first woman cleared her throat and began speaking. "Good evening! My name is Lee Jieun. I am the back up vocalist, the alto, or the second voice." "Yes, good evening! I am Sulli Choi, I am the main vocalist but I would like to say that we, both, are the main singers, from last week's, today's, and future performances." She heard Jieun giggled and it made Sulli smile. "Please enjoy our music and I hope you all have a wonderful time." Jieun positioned her guitar as she moved her head few times: her hair was tied up in a pony tail and it bobbed along with her head. She could hear constant whispers of people saying, "She looks so pretty again! I love how simple her appearance is today. A small ponytail and a casual outfit! It's nice!" And her outfit was nice just as everyone had said: Jieun wore a long, sleeved cream top that covered half of her neck, but it wasn't necessarily considered as a turtle neck top; she wore black jeans followed by small, black boots that had a thick 3 inched heel. Sulli puffed up her cheeks twice or thrice; she could hear murmurs of young men saying, "Oh, how cute!" Sulli wore a similar top like Jieun; they always coordinated their outfits together. She additionally wore a plaited black skirt with tights underneath. As usual, she wore her beige colored flats. Her hair was tied up in a bun; with two strings of hair from each side of her head falling down. Jieun voiced out before performing, "Tonight's first song is called, 'The Shower.' It's slow, relaxing, and I hope it's something you all will enjoy listening to." Jieun softly strummed her guitar as Sulli proceeded to tap her foot along to start the rhythm. The duo smiled each other as they began to sing.
“I knew that day that this would happen That it would end up this way That I’d think about it for a long time I knew it then”
They closed their eyes for a moment and sang with emotion. They often rose their eyebrows up and expressed their feelings with hand motions; It was such a lively performance and it could be seen be seen that the audience loved it. They softly sang and their sweet, soft voices flowed among the small crowd.
“Black sky Sound of a cricket crying Holding on strong to a small hand”
One particular person in the audience often came to this coffee shop after watching a performance one Thursday night. He had a report to write up based for his music class and he needed some inspiration. Since then, he always came to the shop every Thursday evening before the weekly performance began (he often came by in the morning to grab a coffee and to see a certain someone too).
You quietly go down My drought pools up I stand for a long time Holding everything in The bluest of my summer That night That night
He fell in love with the first performance he had watched, the performance from last week, today's performance and he was sure he'd fall in love with the next one as well. The first time he watched, he fell in love with Jieun's voice. He loved that she could easily blend in with her friend's voice, but with notes that were either a tone higher, or lower, and it always seemed just right. Although Jieun's role of being the second voice was something not many people may noticed, he, especially, noticed this. He loved how she could easily harmonize with her friend, he loved it so much. This man had a passion for music, and to see someone easily outdo something tricky, it really struck his heart. How can someone pull this second voice off so easily?
What is your memory of it like What color is it The image of me reflected in your eyes Was it important to you too
So, today, he bought his usual medium sized of iced mint macchiato, and a small strawberry cream cheese pastry for him to eat while listening to his favorite singer sing on stage. He sat comfortably on a arm-seat and gazed at the duo on stage. He softly moved his head from side to side along to the rhythm of the song. The only melodious sound he could hear was not the first voice- not the main melody, but Jieun's: the second voice, the harmony, the voice that isn't properly noticed by many others.
Over my head A cloud passes by In between that A wind breezes by
After several songs, the performance was over. He was stunned, as usual, and was the first person to clap for duo (Jieun noticed this, and giggled. She figured the person that always clapped first was the same guy in the audience from the previous performances). The crowd stood up from their seats and clapped after the man. The two women on staged smiled, bowed, and proceeded to exit the stage. Several of their coworkers dismantled the stage and cleaned up any mess that was around the area. It wasn't closing time just yet although several people starting leaving. Yes, the performances were over, but her voice, emotions and lyrics still resonated throughout his mind.
You quietly go down My drought pools up I stand for a long time Holding everything in The bluest of my summer
The man sat back down on his seat and waited for the woman. He wondered if his outfit was decent; he unlocked his phone and tapped on the camera app. He viewed his camera to see his outfit: he wore his black beanie, an olive green bomber jacket along with denim jeans and black Dr. Marten's boots. He swept his hair towards the side of his temple and took a deep breath. He looked down on his lap and found some dirt: h quickly swept off the bread crumbs spotted on his jeans and got up from his seat. When he heard a door close, he knew the singer had come out of the backroom. This man then took a deep breath and mustered up his courage to start talking to the woman he had always watched on stage.
The lovely conversations that the sound of the rain swallowed The heart that digs a small hole Inside the painting-like, watery smudged summer You are the only clear thing
It seemed like she was ready to leave the shop so he immediately took the chance to talk to her. "Hey, um! Hi! I really liked your performance today. Last week's, too. I mean!! Every performance you do is great." Jieun turned around to see that this grown man was now blushing; the woman he admired was now in front of him! He looked down to see her eyes, glistening after hearing his words.
"Ah.." She smirked and said, "I've never gotten any kind words like these before so I don't know what to say! Ah, thank you so much for listening!" Jieun bowed her head and smiled proudly. "You.. you're also the guy who comes by every Thursday evening. And you're the one that always claps first before anyone else. It's really cute!"
His face was now flushed; he couldn't believe she called him cute. He couldn't even believe that she noticed him being the first to always clap. This made him absolutely nervous. He didn't know he would make it this far into a conversation with her.
"Ah... yes.. that's me! Didn't know you would remember me that way! I feel embarrassed."
"Oh, oh!" Jieun shook her hands, "No it's a good thing! I would always find you clapping first and your smile was the most obvious thing I could see. It made me really happy." She laughed after, and it made the man laugh too. When she smiled, her eyes smiled too; at the sight of this, the man smiled even more. He figured how lucky he was to be able to find such an amazing woman like her in a coffee shop. He didn't want to stop talking to her; in any means he would try to keep the conversation going.
"I-I first noticed your voice when I came here a couple of weeks ago for an assignment in my music class. And I know singing the second voice is really tough so I just wanted to say that you really know how to pull it off. I'm pretty amazed!" He smiled widely and it made Jieun smile shyly.
"I usually don't get noticed by this, but I'm really glad you noticed me. It makes my.. hmm.. my heart warm? Thank you for such a wonderful compliment, though! I know this may be a bit awkward but, since you and I love music, I was hoping I'd get to know you more. Maybe a name?" Jieun smiled once more and it seemed like she couldn't contain her happiness.
"Jungkook," the man said. "Jeon Jungkook. I love singing, but I especially love your voice even more." He wanted to burst out crying because he couldn't believe he said something embarrassing. Although it was a bit cheesy, it was really the truth.
"Awh!" Jieun laughed and covered her face in embarrassment. She looked him and smiled widely, again, "And as you know, I'm Jieun. Lee Jieun. I have a passion for singing and I'm very glad to be noticed by an amazing person like you."
You quietly go down My drought pools up I stand for a long time Holding everything in The bluest of my summer That night I knew that day that this would happen
Her second voice still echoed in his mind from the first song in today's performance. Her voice made him close his eyes and bob his head sideways. Her voice made him want to waltz with her around the coffee shop. Her voice reminded him of everything good that had happened to him. So when Jieun had officially introduced herself to him for the first time, his heart started beating faster than a roller coaster flying past him. And before he knew it, Jungkook fell in love with Jieun and her second voice.

3. The Reaper
"Yoongi, you're hurting my hand-"
The duo had left the building were out in the courtyard. "Jieun, I'm sorry. I just.." Yoongi seemed so exhausted. "Let's.. let's walk to the café..? Yeah? Let's talk there." Jieun stayed silent and nodded her head. She was relatively shorter than him and when Yoongi looked down, all he could see was her brown hair. She still had tears in her eyes and came closer to him to use Yoongi's shirt to wipe it off. ".. Gross.." He softly chuckled. "Whatever makes you happy. Just don't leave boogers." Jieun giggled and the two proceeded to walk to the café.
The classroom was empty for quite awhile. When students of the vocal club heard crying and yelling, they refused to come in the room; the club meeting was therefore cancelled that day. Hyunwoo stood silent and Jungkook slowly walked up to him. "I'm sorry Hyunwoo. I going to need your help too." Suddenly, Hyunwoo felt a chill in his spine. "When did it become cold?" He stared blankly into space for awhile and decided to leave. After staying in the room for the longest time, he realized pushing Jieun to remember Jungkook wasn’t the best idea. “Everything was fine before two years ago,” he thought. “But where is he now? Why doesn’t Jieun remember him? Why is this happening?” Before he exited, he muttered under his breath, "I’m going to figure out everything. I'm going to find you, Jungkook." Jungkook stood alone in the empty room after Hyunwoo had left. He scanned the room to see a couple of chairs that had fallen down and Jieun's guitar that had been flipped over was laying out in the open: it was beige with small markings that he recognized. Jungkook wrote in small print on the back of her guitar: "Happy Birthday! You'll make it someday." He walked towards and tried to flip it over but his transparent hand went through the physical object. "I can't touch anything… ha.. heck.. Iwoke up being unable to do anything. I don't remember even remember how I got here!!” Jungkook’s knees gave up and he fell on the floor, with his palms against his forehead. “I just know that Jieun can help me.. I.. I know she can help." Within seconds, he disappeared from the room.
"Okay," Yoongi placed down the tray of strawberry breads, various pastries and a large bowl of ice cream on the table for the duo to eat. "Tell me everything." Jieun opened the strawberry bread package and took a huge chunk off. "Jungkook is here. He isn't dead. At least that's what he's been saying to me." She continued to munch on her food and eat several spoonfuls of ice cream. "Thing is, I don't know who he is. The new student in my class named Hyunwoo keeps bugging me about it." Although she was troubled, Jieun looked so happy while eating that it made Yoongi smile. She was always happy, so cheerful, it made him smile. She was his ray of sunshine; if Jieun was in a bad mood, Yoongi was easily influenced and therefore would be in a bad too. But when he heard Jungkook's name, he winced. He muttered something under his breath but Jieun couldn't hear it. A majority of the time Yoongi's face was expressionless but Jieun looked up at him and noticed something wrong. She didn't dare say anything, though. She didn't want to say something that might make the situation worse. Jieun was known to cause problems without meaning to.
Yoongi wanted to say something so badly, also- he really did. But when two, familiar men in suits came into the cafè and made eye contact with Yoongi, he immediately closed his mouth and looked away. Erk, I almost broke. I can't let them get hurt this way.
"Err..." When Jieun spoke up, Yoongi moved his face towards her, forgetting about the two men that had walked in. "Does your stomach hurt? Too much Suga?" She laughed at her own joke for several moments and almost choked on her pastry. It was the nickname she remembered even after her accident. Yoongi had a gummy smile appear on his face and chuckled. 'Suga' was his nickname from Jungkook and Jieun; he was known for having a sweet-like smile. He moved her glass of water closer to Jieun and said, "H-hey, don't laugh while you're still chewing!" Yoongi treasured Jieun very much. He loved Jieun as his best friend, and he didn't want her to be taken away again. He was shocked when she had forgotten everything about Jungkook but remembered everything as if he didn't exist. Whenever she had tried to remember something the three had done something together, Jieun talked as if it was only her and Yoongi that existed in the event. There came a time where she had a headache and complained, "was there someone else besides us?" For her own benefit, he replied, "No, it was only us. Just the two of us." "Umm.. anyways, just ignore that Hyunwoo guy," Yoongi said quietly as he ate his pastry. "If you don't know him, then it's not your business. So, don't let it bother you." "Funny how I always say that to you, but now it's the other way around," Jieun said as she motioned her spoon in circles. "True, anyways." "Yeah, just ignore him.." Yoongi glanced at the two men in suits who were now walking away. It's been two years, they should leave me alone. Jieun especially. Geez, so exhausting.
The duo continued to eat their food and carried on their conversation about today’s event until it was getting dark. Yoongi was able to walk Jieun home without her complaining about a ghost following her, as usual. Hoseok opened the door for Jieun and he waved goodbye to Yoongi.
"Stop," he said quietly. Jungkook was walking towards Jieun's home at sunset until the man came back to him. He felt pressured and annoyed whenever the man dressed in a black cloak came to check up on him; he didn't like his attitude at all. Jungkook spoke up with a tired expression on his face, "What do you want from me? Leave me alone- you've been following me for a year. I know what I'm going to do now." "Jungkook, remember that you have a deadline," the man said. "Your current state can only do so much. Instead of just walking around, you should actually do something now that she can see you." The man in the dark cloak sighed. He ran towards the young man and swung his scythe; he then held the blade near Jungkook's neck. "They call me Jimin the Reaper for a reason. I could have taken your life while you were doing nothing. You know, I've been terribly bored waiting for your end." Jimin inched the blade closer to his neck, "I mean, it would be fun if I just took your life now." Before Jungkook could reply, he turned his head around quickly to see that the reaper had disappeared. He hated how he always appeared before him, saying the same things. But whenever the reaper appeared before him, he had always felt like he had known him. It was odd, but Jungkook always shrugged it off.
The middle aged woman in the Jeon household often suffered from many tragic events. It's been two years but it still struck her really hard. Each day, she visited the boy as if he was alive. Whenever she visited him, she would often hear the whispers of the nurses, gossiping about her family matters; she was too exhausted to argue with them. "They'll think whatever they want, right, my baby?" she asked quietly.
Silence. "Mommy's waiting for you. Stay strong." She patted her son's head and fixed his hair. She gazed at him in such a lovingly way, the nurses would pity her whenever they came in to check the boy's condition. "A lot has happened to Mama. I'm okay, though. Marrying your papa was a mistake. I'm sorry he did this to you. I'm sorry, my baby. I'm going to fight for you. I'm to find justice. I'm--" The woman began to cry softly as she rested her head towards the boy. "It's been two years," one nurse whispered, who was nearby the entrance. "It's such a pity... I feel so bad for her," "Shh!! She'll hear us." "Do you think he'll ever wake up?" "Who knows. They say people like him can't wake up because they're denying reality." "That means he refuses to believe in something that's been happening. Or something that happened two years ago." "Maybe he refuses to believe the truth." "Rich families always have the craziest secrets!" "Who knows." "Hey!! You nurses!! Get back to work!!" The woman heard footsteps scramble everywhere and it soon became silent again. She didn't care what others had to say. She was quiet for the time being, and she spoke up after staring at her son, "Jimin is going to be sad if you leave me alone. You can't meet with your brother now. Please, not now. It's too early." Jimin, now dressed in his black suit, sat in the corner, staring at his mother. He often looked at his brother, lying lifeless on the hospital bed, but he mainly focused on his mother. He did this quite often; he followed his mother everywhere when he wasn't busy taking souls. He loved his mother so much that he couldn't leave her alone. Jimin regretted leaving his mother with his burdens when she already had too many problems of her own. "Ma..." He stood up and walked towards his mother. Jimin tried to hug her but his transparent arms when through his mother's body. He knew this would happen but it always disappointed him after years of attempt.
"Geh.." His mother shook. "I always get shivers here. Are you cold? Mommy will fix your blankets." She stood up and altered his blankets as Jimin stared at his mother once more. Before he disappeared, he said quietly, "I'm sorry... Ma.. This time.. I'm going to help you. I'll Jungkook bring back his life for you."
The Photograph
Jungkook had a passion for taking pictures of beautiful things- and beautiful people. When Jieun came into his life, he knew he would want to take pictures of her everyday.
She was the reason why he wanted to become a better photographer; she was his motivation.
I’m back with another one-shot! Still includes my favorite golden duo: IU & Jungkook of BTS~
Inspiration: Something I made up from the top of my head? I passed by a guy in the library who was looking through his photos on his camera and I immediately thought of this concept.
Words: 1k~
IU, Jungkook, & a surprise member!
Smol twist in the end ;-)
May add another chapter if people actually request it, lol.
Enjoy reading!
He saw her often around the school, always rushing to go somewhere. He found it quite odd to spot the same girl at the same place in a large university. In a crowd of the same colored jackets and sweaters, she was the only person who stood out; her bright smile among the sea of frowns was the most obvious thing he could see. And each day he saw her rush in the same crowd, he fell for her. How could I fall for someone who doesn't even know me? Heck, I don't even know her that well, Jungkook thought. The innocent second year student sat on the bench the next morning and found the same female student in a rush. Jungkook saw this as a chance: he positioned his camera so he could snap a good angle of her; he made sure it wouldn't be obvious. With the colorful background, the yellow sun, bright blue sky with dashes of white clouds, the neon green lawn, beige buildings with hints of faded purple painted on it; this was a picture he must take. Jungkook never knew he could find such a bright environment in a colorless and cold season. He played with his camera for awhile because he wasn't used to holding it with his gloves. His breathing could be visible by the cold air as he pressed the camera's button twice. The female student stopped in front of the lawn right across Jungkook's bench and scanned the area. She looked worried as she paced back and forth on the cement with her burying her mouth deep inside her large scarf. Her long black hair seemed to dance softly along with the winter's wind. After watching her for a minute, Jungkook came to this conclusion: It seemed like she's looking for someone. He continued to take one more shot of her, which turned out well. Jungkook had a proud face on as he admired his piece of work. Before he could take another one, the female student interrupted him. "H-Hoseok!!" She finally voiced out. "Jieun! Hey!" These two had the brightest smile on their faces when they rushed towards each other. The tall male student's black beanie slightly fell off of his head when he ran with his backpack slung on his shoulder. The students' eyes smiled with their teeth exposed when they met. Without hesitating, Jungkook took a picture of the two. He really liked their bright smiles and knew it would look good in his portfolio for his upcoming project. The two proceeded to talk while Jungkook watched them, thinking they were just regular friends. Atleast he hoped they were. The following week, Jungkook wanted to scream: he finally got to meet Jieun. It was the first meeting of the choir club and it turned out that Jieun was not only a third-year, but also the vice-president. She greeted him with the nicest smile and Jungkook wanted to melt. They proceeded with ice breakers and their upcoming meetings throughout the semester. The schedule included out-of-city competitions and Jungkook could see how excited Jieun was. She had a passion for singing, and he could see that as she sung along with the members throughout the next few weeks.
After Jieun and Jungkook had graduated from the university years later, the two kept in touch through text messages. They were apart, finding what they really wanted to do in life. Jungkook felt lonely and maybe even heartbroken, but knew it was the best for her to settle down on her own. It wasn’t until about a few years later when they had officially caught up together. They made it a plan to get coffee with her in the morning soon and he planned to bring his camera with him(even after all these years, Jungkook still had a passion for taking photos). He missed her so much after being apart for a long time. And it just made him realize that he loved taking pictures of not just anything, but more specifically, her smiling. Her smile always lifted up his mood, whether he would be sad or angry, or even plain happy. It was such a beautiful smile that he wanted to protect: he wanted to hide it so nobody would fall in love with it. "You still like taking pictures, huh?" Jieun grinned after sipping on her coffee. The two finally planned on eating breakfast together one morning at a nearby café. The two were now settled down with a stable job. For a year, he hadn’t had a chance to talk to her despite the messages sent back and forth each day. Jieun noticed how tall he grew and how handsome he became. She smiled upon the thought of this and continued to gaze at the man who was no longer the innocent boy from her choir club.
"Of course!" Jungkook smiled brightly. He still blushed after all these years being around her. "I took a photo of you once, and your smile looked really nice. I mean, it's always nice." He became flustered after saying such an embarrassing thing. "Aww, Jungkook! You know how to tug a woman's heart, haha!" He loved being around with her. He loved it so much. He loved her smile, he loved her positive aura, he loved her laugh; he loved everything about her. Jungkook didn't want to let her go. But years later, he never would imagine this scenario. Snap! Click! Flash! Jieun smiled lovingly smiled at her newly wedded husband as the bells chimed. Flash! Click! Snap! "..ok! Congratulations... Jie.. and ..ook..!! Jungkook smiled as Jieun made eye contact with him, smiling. She held onto her husband's arms as they walked down the white aisle filled with beautiful ribbons and flower petals. The cameramen proceeded to press down onto their buttons followed by flashes. The bride passed by Jungkook with her stunningly white dress that shaped her curves perfectly. He smiled softly as he looked at each finished product that popped up on his camera screen. Jieun was smiling her brightest here, along side with her stunningly handsome husband. "Congratulations, Jieun and Hoseok!!" That smile was not for him to keep anymore; it wasn't his smile to have forever in his pocket in the first place. He loved Jieun, but it was time to leave. He looked at the developed photo and smiled as tears fell. Jungkook loved taking photos. He loved Jieun. But what was the point of taking photos of beautiful things when the only beautiful thing in the world belonged to someone else?
Hello, Goodbye

Few remarks:
1k~ words; relatively short
I know that having Lee Hyun Woo & Jeon Jungkook as both the male protagonists is an odd pairing, but I hope you guys endure it with such a weird duo.
I hope the next characters I introduce will make you somewhat excited!
2. The Cold Hearted Ghost
"Uhh.. boyfriend..? I don't remember having a boyfriend. Oh! I do remember rejecting several guys! I'm sorry I had to reject y-" "I was joking about the boyfriend part." Hyunwoo squinted at her. "You really don't remember me at all, huh. I even texted you two years ago, but you stopped replying." He waited for an answer but Jieun looked hopelessly confused. He spoke up, "We had playdates when we were kids. We were ten years old, so I guess you wouldn't remember. Our fathers were business partners along with another man, but I don't where he went..." He paused for a moment and stared at Jieun. She still looked confused, with her brown eyes staring at Hyunwoo's. "What," he breathed, raising an eyebrow. He noticed he still had his body close to her's and immediately took a step back. Jieun didn't realize that but she felt like she could breathe easier that way. "My dad doesn't run a company? I mean, I don't even know what he does. He keeps it a secret," she said, still looking confused. "Oh." Hyunwoo looked disappointed. "How's Jungkook?" Jieun squinted at him. "Jungkook? Who's that?" Hyunwoo looked worried. What...?? What happened to her. What happened when I left? "Are you talking about Taehyung? My brother is doing good- if that's what you're talking about." "No-" "Hoseok oppa!! He's doing well. He just hangs out with the wrong people that's all." "Jieun!!" Hyunwoo looked so worried. "Jieun.. you, Jungkook and I were close friends before I moved. I know he stayed here. Where is he? What happened?" She felt so awkward in this position. She hated feeling pressured for something she had no idea of. Jieun could feel tension rise in her and she wanted to leave before screaming at a stranger. "Um.. Hyunwoo.. I really don't know what you're talking about. I'm sorry. And um.. you're scaring me.. I'm sorry... I'll go." Jieun slowly hid her arm behind her back and grabbed the handle to open the door; she was able to exit through the door quickly before Hyunwoo had the chance to stop her. "What happened... we even exchanged phone numbers.. but they stopped texting me two years ago and changed their numbers without telling me. Wait..." Hyunwoo's face looked utterly defeated. "What happened two years ago that made them so different?"
Jieun was the first to arrive in the classroom for her vocal club after school had ended. The room was small, empty and quiet, but she soon filled it with music. She took out her guitar case from the closet and opened it on a nearby table. She then proceeded to sit down on a chair and gently strum a familiar tune and sang for awhile. Jieun loved singing; it made her feel free and it was overall relaxing. She smiled softly and continued to play but she felt something was wrong. "Looks like you can remember how to play our songs but not me." Jieun turned her singing into screaming. She quickly closed her eyes tightly and covered her face in hopes she didn't see the ghost and that he would disappear. She was beyond scared; she didn't want him to appear before her again. She hated the fact that there was nobody to help her, Jieun didn’t know what to do. A ghost in broad daylight? Impossible. "Y-you!!" she yelled. "What do you want from me!! I'm sorry for yelling!! I-I'm just scared!!" "Please be calm, Jieun. Please open your eyes.." She peeked through her fingers that covered her face and she immediately closed her eyes again when she saw the boy. I can’t believe it, no, no!
Jieun continued to cover her eyes with her hand for she was in complete denial. She wanted this to go away, she didn’t want deal with ghosts. After several minutes had passed, she mustered up her courage and Jieun then had managed to open one eye: she saw that the boy had one knee down to be on the same level as her. He had calm but such sad eyes. He whispered her name again, as if he pitied her, "Oh, Jieun... Jieun..." His hands were placed on his thighs and she could see them trembling. "Jieun. I need your help. Please be brave right now." "I-I..." Jieun removed her hand from her face and forced her eyes to open; this boy... she really thought he was a human. "Please forgive me...!!" She stood up quickly from her chair and looked down at the boy. He looked confused for a second and when he tilted his head, the earrings on his earlobe shook. Jieun was trembling in fear and clenched her fists tightly. Within a second, she closed her eyes tightly and punched his face. The boy cringed as he fell back and landed in the floor. He looked at Jieun in bewilderment and slowly touched his white cheek as if he was in pain; but after a second, he seemed to be alright. He figured that his mouth wasn't bleeding nor he could not feel any pain from the punch. Jieun looked at her fist and hoped to see it turn red; that would be proof that he was actually alive. But her fist wasn't red nor did she feel any pain, either. In fact, her fist felt cold. "You-you're a ghost right!! I punched you but you moved!! I touched you!!! You're not transparent!! Ghosts don't do that, right?!?" Jieun breathed heavily with her fists still clenched. She really felt like she was going crazy. "Well... I'm not sure either," The boy shrugged and helped himself get up. He didn’t seem surprised that he wasn’t in pain. "I know that people can't see me, and they can't touch me. Except for you, I guess." He walked closer and now, their bodies were centimeters apart. He looked down at her with such sad eyes. "Not the piteous eyes again," Jieun thought. He looked down at her and leaned forward so his eyes can meet Jieun's. They stared at each other for while and Jieun's heart skipped a beat. "Oh..? He’s kinda good-looking? A cute ghost? Weird.. aahhh this is so awkward. His nose is cute. I wanna pinch it. His piercings make him look like a cute bad boy. Ew... haha.. what am I saying.. his eyes are really nic-" "Jieun. I am Jungkook. I need your help. You see, I'm dead." Jieun's eyes widened when she heard the word, "dead." Jungkook grabbed her hands and placed it on his chest. "My heart’s still beating but it's cold. I don't know what's happening but please help me."
She froze. "I don't know who Jungkook is. And I don't know if I can help you."
“Jieun, you’re the only who could help me. I remember everything about us, but why don’t you remember me? Look, I woke up remembering nothing, but after walking around everywhere for two years, I slowly regained my memories.”
“Um..” Jieun looked helpless.
“Please! You can help me. I know you can!”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know-” "Then will this help you remember?" When Jungkook tried to lean in closer, as if he was going to kiss her, Jieun immediately pushed him and screamed. "You!!! What kind of games are you playing!!" Suddenly, the door swung open: Hyunwoo came inside the room with sweat all over his face. "Jieun!! What's wrong?!?" Hyunwoo grabbed both of Jieun's shoulders and shook her twice. "You're just staring off into space!! What are you looking at?!?" Jieun pointed at Jungkook, who was staring at boy. Hyunwoo was confused; there wasn't anyone on the floor. "H-hyunwoo..." Jungkook whispered. Jieun watched him fall into the floor and she hurried towards him. "I-I'm sorry I pushed you !! Erm!! Can you stand?" Jungkook continued to stare at Hyunwoo. He looked so helpless at him, it made Jieun worried. "...Jungkook..??" she whispered to him. Hyunwoo suddenly shouted, "Jieun!! What are you doing ?!? Get up from the floor! You're acting really weird!" He lifted her up from the floor without noticing Jungkook. When Jieun stood up, Hyunwoo placed his hands on her shoulders and said quietly, "Jieun... something's weird. You said you don't remember Jungkook but I know you're lying! I heard you playing the guitar awhile ago and I knew it was you! It was the same song you and Jungkook always played to when we were kids!! Jieun, what did he do to you to make you forget him?!?" Jieun became so irritated. "I don't know who Jungkook is, okay?!” She yelled at Hyunwoo as she grinded her teeth. “ He's right there if you need him!! Stop asking me!" She pointed at the same empty spot she was staring at earlier. Hyunwoo felt like he was going crazy. This, again?!? "Don't play games with me. Jieun, nobody there." "Jungkook!!" Jieun screamed. "Don't tell me you're dead when you're right here!!" Jungkook felt incredibly sad. He didn’t mean to cause tension. He didn’t move from his spot and spoke in a calm manner, "Jieun, I'm sorry I made you upset. But nobody but you can see me. I'm sorry." Jieun fell on her knees. "You're making me look crazy. You guys keep saying things as if I know Jungkook- I don't know him!! How many times must I tell you! Never in my life have I known a guy named Jungkook! Who is he ?? What are my connections with him?? Why is here ?? What did I do wrong for him to haunt me ?!?" She broke out into tears and continued to cry. "I don't know who Jungkook so don't.. don't bother me anymore. This is such a sick joke: you tell me where Jungkook is and he’s right here." "Jieun.." Jungkook spoke softly as he crouched down towards her. "I'm not here to haunt you. I'm sorry I scared you and-" Suddenly, the door opened. A guy with his bangs covering half of his eye looked tired as he entered. His silver hair was nicely swept towards the side of his face. He looked around the room and when he saw Jieun crying on the floor, he instantly became angry. He ran towards Hyunwoo and grabbed his shirt. "What have you done to her?!? I've never seen you around here!!" "First," Hyunwoo grabbed the boy's hand and moved it aside. "I didn't do anything. Second, I'm her childhood friend; who are YOU?" The boy seemed taken aback, but it didn’t stop him from being irritated. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and turned away from Hyunwoo. The boy rushed towards Jieun grabbed her hand and said, "Let's leave this place and talk." "Wait, Yoongi-" Before they had left the room, Yoongi paused at the door, having his back faced to Jungkook and Hyunwoo. Yoongi turned around and glanced at Jungkook. He looked at him as if he pitied him, and it made Jungkook's heart ache. Seconds later, the two students had left the room without saying a word. "Jungkook's here... I know it. Jungkook... WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!?" Hyunwoo kicked one of the chairs and knocked it down. He was absolutely angry that it made him cry. "Jieun.. don't make it sound like Jungkook's dead... He's not.. I know it.." “Y-Yoongi…?” Jungkook was opened his mouth in bewilderment. Why did Yoongi look at me as if he knew I was here?
A/N: Jieun and Yoongi!! Such an unusual pairing, right? I thought, IU is such an adorable person who can be tough at times and Yoongi is such a serious and emotionless person yet a lively person; wouldn't that pairing be unique? It’s a relatively short chapter, so I’ll be posting the third chapter soon (also because you guys have been waiting for a long time)!
Calling out all JungkookU/KookieU shippers!! I’ve recently written a fanfic based on my favorite two people, so it’d be cool if you guys gave it a chance to read it!
You can read it here!
