Kooky's got the right idea! 🗯️
i was thinking about this particular aesthetic for a bit and i can't figure out a name for it
when i saw the menu for the van helsing dvd i immediately thought about this particular kind of aesthetic you tend to see in a lot of different spooky or halloween-y media. one that's characterized by jagged lines, dark environments punched up with bold colors, and an emphasis in off-angles. i don't know if this kind of aesthetic has a particular name.
i can see hints of wacky pomo and
maybe neon ooze but i'm more aware of its roots in german expressionist films like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which more or less set the groundwork for these pieces to build off of. i wouldn't call this aesthetic "german expressionism" since i feel like this aesthetic didn't really start becoming a thing until the 90s or maybe late 80s.
