I don’t know if you’ve ever considered them BUT: Koolie
You know what? I just spent like 15 minutes trying to find something to talk shit about and really couldn't find anything. Maybe I need a Koolie.

What’s living with a Koolie like? Would you say they’re similar to Border Collies in temperament/energy level/etc?
Can’t really equate Navi to the entire Koolie population, but living with her is actually super easy for me. The only “issue” with her is that she’s not used to being entirely alone without Maisie yet, and she generally doesn’t like being left alone. She’s okay with Maisie, but not really on her own atm. But it’s a work in progress and nothing extreme. Just a velcro dog having to accept people are not in line of sight 24/7 heheh. But I think most Border Collies and herding dogs in general are pretty similar in that aspect.
I’ve never lived with a Border Collie so I can’t really speak with full confidence, but it seems like they’re very similar to own. The biggest difference between BCs and Koolies is their herding style, but temperament wise, koolies tend to be a bit more laid back, more playful, and less serious, obsessive, and sensitive than BCs. That being said, I’m sure you can find equivalents of Navi across some other herding breeds or mixes. She seems similar to some bearded collies I’ve met, she’s SCARY similar to @bobahund, she’s similar to my friend’s BCs, somewhat similar to my friend’s kelpie..
But to get back to your actual question. There are so many different lines of BCs, it’s really hard to say how similar koolies and BCs are. So in general, yes pretty similar: they are athletic, love to do whatever activity you think of, need to keep their minds busy so they won’t start coming up with their own “fun”, are pretty sensitive, and will probably want to herd most moving animals or objects. The koolies I know also have a great off-switch. I know that most BCs do too, but I also know that many absolutely do not.
Soooo to sum it up, they’re kinda like BCs? I like to think of them as cousins. Basically, if you could handle a BC you could handle a Koolie and vice versa.
Thanks to @maisietheyellowlab that I am in love with Koolies ❤!
