Great Kontakt Script For Guitarists and Keyboardists

From The Good Folks At Sonic Couture. Makers of Great Kontakt Sample Libraries.  They Have Just released another free kontakt script called Smart Pitch.  It's Supposed to mimic guitar pitch bend techniques on a keyboard. This script overrides any normal pitch bend that might be programmed into an Instrument.There are three knobs, and all can be automated. The first is the Pitch Bend TYPE, and the second two are just the range for upper and lower bends in semitones.

There are 6 types of pitch bend included 

All – this bends all notes, like normal pitch bend

Last – bends only the last note played

Highest – bends only the highest note being held down

Lowest – bends only the lowest note being held down

Held – bends only notes being held down (not those in release )

Release – bends only the notes in release (not those being held down)

The last one, Release, is obviously impossible on a guitar, but can be fun to play with.

Die einzelnen Instrumente und Bestandteile meines Studios die in “Try” Verwendung finden sind die folgenden:

Native Intruments Maschine

Die Maschine ist eine Hybridlösung aus Software und Hardware aus dem Hause Native Instruments. Das Herz des Systems ist die Software, die Hardware ist ein ausgereifter Controller zur Steuerung der Software. Die Software lässt sich im Grunde vollständig mit der Hardware kontrollieren, was beim musikzieren ein großer Vorteil ist, den Haptik bei der Musikproduktion ist etwas schönes. Die Maschine erlaubt es, einzelne Samples auf die verschiedenen anschlagsdynamischen Pads zu legen und diese damit zu spielen. In erster Linie liegt die Stärke der Maschine darin, Beats zu Programmieren. Dank dem integrierten Sequencer sind aber auch komplette Song-Produktionen und Arrangements möglich. Ich nutze in der Regel allerdings nicht den intergrierten Sequencer sondern lade die Maschine als VST-Instrument in Cubase.

M-Audio E-Keys

Das E-Keys Keyboard ist ein simples Midi-Keyboard ohne große Controller-Möglichkeiten. Ich verwende es um jegliche Software-Instrumente wie zum Beispiel Synthesizer anzuspielen. Es besitzte 88 Tasten und hat damit den vollen Tastenumfang eines Klaviers. Die Tastatur ist anschlagsdynamisch, was bedeutet, dass die Information wie stark die Tasten angespielt werden, an das Software Instrument vermittelt und dort dementspreched umgesetzt werden.

Kore2

Kore2 ist ähnlich wie die zuvor beschriebene Maschine eine Hybridlösung aus Soft- und Hardware aus dem Hause Native Instruments. Während die Maschine eher ein Drumsampler ist, ist Kore eine Sounddatenbank die sich an Bass, Pad und Leadsounds orientiert. In der Software lassen sich die verschiedensten Sounds gut kategorisiert überschauen. Die Hardware dient zur Steuerung weniger verschiedener Parameter. Im Grunde kann man sagen, Kore ist ein Instrument das leichte Eingriffe in die Sounds erlaubt, aber aufgrund der geringen Editierparameter lange nicht so flexibel ist wie ein echter Software-Synthesizer. Das Konzept ist, nicht lange nach einem Sound zu suchen, oder diesen aufwendig zu editieren. Schnelles Suchen, Finden und Benutzen ist die Idee hinter dieser Soundsammlung.

Korg R3 Synthesizer

Der R3 ist ein virtuell-anloger Synthesizer aus dem Hause Korg. Virtuell Analog bedeutet, dass mittels Software analoge Schaltkreise und somit der Sound eines analogen Gerätes nachgeahmt werden. Das Ergebnis ist ertaunlich gut. Der Synth hat einen sehr breiten und warmen Sound. Das Soundsprektrum ist sehr groß, wobei sich das Gerät klar auf elektronische Klänge wie Pads, Lead-Sounds oder Synth-Bässe konzentriert. Ebenfalls ist ein Vocoder eingebaut der es erlaubt, ein eingehendes Audiosognal wie z.B. eine Stimme deutlich zu verfremden und über die Tasten spielbar zu machen.

Software

Als Host-Sequencer benutze ich Cubase 6. Dies bedeutet, dass in Cubase alles „zusammenläuft“. Die Software-Instrumente werden in Cubase eingebunden, hier wird Recorded und hier wird das Arrangement gebildet. Einen Sequencer kann man demnach als „das Herz“ eines Studios bezeichnen. Ansonsten wurde auf Software-Seite Symphonic Sphere von Orchestral Tools und der Native Instruments FM8 Synthesizer benutzt. Symphonic Sphere ist eine Sample-Library welche für die Strings im Song Einsatz fand. Der FM8 ist ein sehr vielseitiger Software Synthesizer mit hervorragendem Klang.

Es gibt für mich die verschiedensten Arten einen Song bzw. Studioarbeit zu beginnen. Das hängt auch zum großen Teil damit zusammen das ich nicht auf eine bestimmte Musikrichtung gepolt bin. Ich mache elektronische sowie akustische Musik. Mal vermischen sich beide Welten, mal werden Sie getrennt. Ich habe mich schon oft gefragt, ob es nicht einfacher wäre sich für eine Seite zu entscheiden und nur diese zu verfolgen. Da ich aber nie in der Lage war mich für eine Seite zu entschieden, hat sich diese Frage im Laufe der Zeit erledigt. “Try” wird eher von elektronischen Klängen dominiert, die Ausnahme machen hier die Streicher und meine Stimme. “Try” ist im Grunde ein alter Song den ich im Jahr 2007 geschrieben und produziert habe. Ich habe den Song nie veröffentlicht oder präsentiert, habe aber von den wenigen Leuten denen ich das Stück gezeigt habe gute Resonanz bekommen. Deshalb entschloss ich mich, den Song für dieses Projekt neu aufzunehmen und besser klingen zu lassen.

Gehen wir also ins Studio und beginnen einen Song zu produzieren!

Ableton Hacking

Well - not really.  :)  More like just making it do what I want it to do using the features it comes with that I don't know about.    I've got a couple of gigs coming up for Ottawa Fashion Week at the end of September and I'm planning to rock them both with Ableton Live as the backbone of the show.   I can't recall Ableton ever really crashing on me, so it gets the job!   Right now I'm currently trying to structure my set of original jams into a few big projects in Ableton that I can basically run scenes for.  I've been ripping my hair out trying to understand why I couldn't map a rotary controller to the tempo box, but I just nailed that.  Turned out I needed to enable the Remote setting on the midi controller in Ableton.  Strangely though, unlike when you select, say, a fader in MIDI map mode, and its related blue area is "cross-hatched" with little black corner markers to let you know you've selected it, the tempo box does no such thing.  So I thought at first it couldn't be assigned....   but alas... it can.  :)))

In the meantime I'm cranking out jams and grooves, heavily into using Reaktor, Absynth, Massive, Alchemy and a variety of beat tools like Sonic Charge's uTonic, AD's Tattoo and SC's awesome library of breaks and beats (Tremors, Abstrakt 1&2).   Dusting said tracks with some home made mouth sounds, bass guitar and general noisemaking stuff.... fun fun fun.   I figure to have all my songs turned into audio tracks so I can keep the processing live to a bare minimum (crash avoidance 101).   After I get a few hours of jams worked out to audio, I'm going to rip my AxiomPro61, monome64, KaossPad and possibly my Kore 2 rig all out of the studio and see what I can do with all of this off the laptop.  Big question marks on the Kore 2 stability...we'll see.  I've never set it up on the laptop....   hmm.....

But I'll also run the iPad2 with some audio coming from a few apps in there, plus my iphone library, so I should be able to mix and match and handle any weird glitches with another source of audio while I get things rolling again.  Right?   rrrrrrright...... :)))
