A friend introduced J and I to a very tradition bingsoo (빙수) shop! Bingsoo is a very finely shaved ice dessert (think light and fluffy, NOT like a snow cone at all). All three have red bean--the white ones have sweet ricecakes on top and the green on is macha.
Day 3 in Korea and day 2 of KU orientation--delicious (free!) bibimbap, one small part of the awful hill back to the dorms and Korean style fried chicken at dinner with our KUBA (Korea University Buddy Assistants--made up of Korean student leaders and other exchange students) group!

Still in week 2, on yet another ISA trip, this time to the Korean War Museum (to clarify, it’s a museum about wars in Korea, not just the Korean War)! We made model turtle ships--a highly effective 16th century Korean invention (see actual ship on the 5th row haha)
Yet another trip with ISA in week 2, this time to Insadong! First we all got to try on hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), which kinda felt a lil weird but they were beautiful. Then we went to a popular market complex nearby--lots of jewelry and trinket shops. It’s also home to the famous “poop bread” (filled with red bean or chocolate) and a poop cafe...strange, but it tasted good?
A trip to N Seoul Tower (aka Namsan Tower) with ISA during my second week in Korea. It was a pretty foggy, rainy day so it was hard to get decent photos, but it was still fun! It was super touristy, hence and entire Hello Kitty store in the base haha? The locks are “love locks” that couples write on and lock onto the railings on a mid-level of the tower.
Week 2, on yet another ISA excursion--this time to Gwangjang market (one of the oldest in Seoul) and to Dongmyo market.
Gwangjang market has lots of outdoor food vendors, restaurants, and fresh meat and produce stands. We shared a haemul bindaetteok (해물 빈대떡) or a seafood mung bean pancake--delicious!
Then we moved onto Dongmyo market, which is essentially a kinda junky flea market, and proceeded to find ourselves among a ton of old people who made it very obvious that foreigners didn’t go to this market often with their blatant staring...awkward.
Gyeongbokgung cont: The middle three photos are of the part of the palace that was built after the fire destroyed the rest of the palace--obviously very different. As we went to leave, we happened to be in time to see the changing of the guard ceremony.
