Hands down, the best dinner I had in Greece was in the hill town of Koronos. It was worth being almost blown off the road to get there.

Located in a ravine between two mountains, the picturesque village Koronos will enchant you. Traditional houses are surrounded by a verdant natural landscape. The village comprises seven neighborhoods, connected with flights of stairs and alleys.

The village of Koronos is located in northeastern Naxos and is accessible by the main road (28 km from Chora).It is one of the most picturesque villages, retaining intact the traditional architecture. 

It is divided in seven neighborhoods, which are connected with alleyways and countless flights of stairs.Almost all neighborhoods have their own square and old water fountain. The central square is called the Platsa by the locals.

Η Κόρωνος αποτελεί ένα πανέμορφο χωριό στο βορειοδυτικό μέρος της Νάξου. Πνιγμένο στο πράσινο, σε υψόμετρο 540 μέτρων, αποτελεί ένα χωριό κόσμημα με πολλές πλατείες, επιλογές για φαγητό, καταστήματα και Λαογραφικό Μουσείο.

Αξίζει επίσης να επισκεφθείτε την εκκλησία του Αγίου Ισιδώρου που χτίστηκε τον 11ο αιώνα και αποτελεί ένα πολύ ενδιαφέρον αξιοθέατο του χωριού.

Since none of us, wherever in the world you might be reading this, will still not be traveling too far anytime soon, I decided to launch a new little photo project/series. I'm calling it Faces From Afar. Scouring countless photos from every corner of the planet that I've amassed over approximately 15 years, the idea is to present the faces of people in their element. In their corner of the world. Some will be straight-up face portraits, some will be portraits depicting one's environment around them. I hope that by sharing these, we can all be transported even for a minute, and feel some sort of connection to different people and places since we can't yet be there to experience them in person. For a number of you, some of these images will be coming from your own back yard and if so, please say hello in the comments! The first one (in no particular order) is this very kind gentleman, who I bumped into on the slender footpath "streets" of the tiny village of #Koronos, on the northern end of #Naxos in #Greece in 2011. No vehicles enter the steep mountainside village, and the only way around is up and down steps and walkways by foot or by four-legged friend. He spoke no English, and my Greek is limited to only a handful of phrases, but through non-verbal communication, he led me through the labyrinth-like paths of the village to show me where I needed to go in order to climb back out of the village to the mountaintop where I had a motor scooter parked. Naxos Koronos Village

Koronos, Naxos island: The traditional mountain village of Koronos is located at 36 km away from the Naxos Town, at an altitude of 540 metres, in a picturesque valley full of vineyards. Apart from excellent quality wine, the village also produces all kind of fine agricultural products.

Koronos is one of the oldest settlements in northeastern Naxos which first appears in written records c.1200 AD.
