35. Hold my hand 

(I haven't done TZ in so long I'm sorry if this is bad) 

It takes a while for them to find themselves back where they started, pulling themselves out of the ruins of what they used to have, crumbled all around them in a mess too much for any one (or two) people to clean up. 

But he invites her over to his place when she comes back (he had given up hope that she ever would), and he hopes, prays, that maybe it can be like old times. 

When she's sitting beside him on the couch, achingly close but too far away, all he can think about is her face when she told him goodbye, all he can feel is the way her lips felt against his. He still remembers every moment of it -- it's engraved into his brain far too deep to ever be removed. The silence is painfully empty, the air too thick to breathe properly. 

And then she reaches over and takes his hand in hers. 

His breath catches, but he squeezes her fingers and closes his eyes, etching a new memory to hold on to when days get dark. He glances over at her and she smiles, a small, timid expression, but then some of the tension melts away.

Maybe they can't get back to where they were.

Maybe they'll just go somewhere different. Better.
