@korrigane liked for a starter.
it was only here that could exist so staunch a fortress of undiluted blackness. standing still at the edge of the silent wood, towered over by the jagged peaks of an all-too-familiar range. craggy rock spat out a sea of tangled roots and earth, and over the pink-hemmed horizon came the silhouette of isten széke and the cart-wheel driven trails that cut through the hills like diamond. the fantasy was only ruined by the sound of the town and its mortal workers too close for his comfort. bistrița and its comely hotels and the locals who would work tirelessly to feed the mouths of travelers making their way through the pass. packs of dogs were howling in the streets, screaming like sirens for the visitors who had come up the winding southern road. through the trees could the count make out the flickering of their firelight and the lamps at the rigid gate.
bone white fingers were settled beneath the legs of a sentient creature, certainly small enough to be mistaken for an eager moth or dragonfly. the wings would beat in brilliant repetition, connected at the back of the smallest, most beautiful kind of faerie. though the vampire would never admit, his glacial eyes would look upon her with fondness, and without any of the fierceness and cunning chill that was otherwise reserved for the living. he admired the moon-like light that poured from her pores and spoke gently to her in their shared, ancient tongue.
but horror quickly overcame him by the scent of mortal blood; his nostrils were pervaded by the sickly scent, flaring above the haunting red lip and the sharp, white teeth. the wolf was alive in him, awake and thirsting for life. the points of his ears felt the warmth of danger and the crackling of soil and fallen twigs, prompting the closing of those fingers around the faerie’s lithe figure to hide her from hunter’s view.
“ there is nothing for you here. ” his voice, though whispered through his teeth, cut through the trees like a knife. the sound of his native tongue was like dark fire in his mouth. “ return to your home. ”
