The only issue with opals is that you usually get either a doublet or a triplet opal, which is a tiny thin sliver of actual opal sandwiched between clear crystal or glass, which makes it sturdier. Actual full opal is pretty easy to damage with day to day wear and washing, depending on its quality. Very pretty though in any case. Also as someone who worked in a jewellery store for just under 2 years, fuck diamonds man they're so ridiculously overpriced and boring.
Yeah, I knew that info so when I got my ring I like... I have looked at it very closely with a loupe and I am like 99.99% posi it’s a real opal (it was from Shane Co., I think; my dad got it for me for my 20th birthday), but I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t broken yet. I should probs be more careful with it than I am because whenever it even touches something I Fear.
My mom has a diamond ring and around Christmas my dad and I went shopping to find matching stuff and I was in jewelry stores pretty much talking very vocally about how much of a ripoff diamonds were. lol I’m surprised no one heard me or tried to tell me otherwise.
