Keeper of the Lost Cities 8/10

The cover depicts an important scene in the book. Jason Chan’s “perspective game” is on point: subjects are above the horizon line, pillar close vs lamppost farther, and the art is tilted. I dunno how I feel about Sophie’s skirt in a fashion sense. Dex!

Exile 7/10

My personal favorite official art of Keefe. The detail of Silveny is stunning. Back lighting *chef’s kiss*. Characters are in a very static position.

Everblaze 10/10

Color palette -> gorgeous, the “movement” in this piece -> excellent, would I spend hours trying to predict what was happening in this scene? -> yes. Could’ve made the title more orange or red / shouldn’t have copied the color of keeper 1’s text. Their legs look okay. But, the scattered crystals and the Lumenaria tower <3

Neverseen 9/10

The hair of each individual is great. Placement of “By Shannon Messenger” is no bueno. If this is supposed to show how they got into Ravagog, I’m pretty sure it’s inaccurate. The green and purple cohesiveness! I especially like the water crashing around them.

Lodestar 6/10

I don’t know what’s up with Fitz, but it looks wrong. However, Tam looks fantastic. Is he supposed to be using his Shade abilities here? Sophie’s layering skills! The red dress over the white top + leggings and kick a$$ boots. Might be a stretch, but putting the Neverseen in the foreground could symbolize how they are a step ahead of the Council/Black Swan. The cover looks like it was given the wrong filter. But, I can appreciate the artistic flair of the piece.

Nightfall 7/10

Keefe’s head looks off idk why. The Atlantis building very cool. My girl Linh putting in the work! Personal opinion: too much blue.

Flashback 7/10

Not a fan of the lighting choice. I realize Wylie is a Flasher and therefore some areas are really bright and blurry, but I’m a big fan of clear cut lines and high contrast/defined shadows.

Legacy 9/10

I can’t tell where Fitz is looking. Idk how Mr. Chan made their clothes textured, but it looks fantastic. It is v neat they way they beveled the text to make it look like metal.

Unlocked 2/10

Probs would’ve given it a solid 8, but I absolutely hate how the text is aligned in the center instead of to the left. It’s um no. Just no. 8.5 is a part of the series and in order to read keeper 9 you wiIl have to read Unlocked. I love how we get to see other lands and structures. Iffy on Sophie’s expression. I love the pink. I wouldn’t have gone for that much shine on the text. Why doesn’t Sophie use a saddle?

P.S. I dislike the series’ inconsistency of the text shadows. 

P.P.S. I think it’s funny how Sophie is never looking at another person. It demonstrates how she’s oblivious of how other people think of her.

Ms. Messenger hadn’t decided what Juline’s talent would be at this point. Why wouldn’t Dex consider this his talent? Unless Juline kept the fact that she’s a Froster a secret. Nah, p sure you can’t hide a talent that well. I need to reread Lodestar.

Here are my kotlc 1 notes

So my idiot brain forgot that pathfinders are wands where you attach different crystals at the top.

Amy has curly brown hair and green eyes, and is popular.

Della called Sophie’s eyes “exotic” I can’t.

If Jolie was alive she’d would’ve been 35/36 yrs old.

Sophie’s bedroom overlooks the ocean where she can watch the sunrise.

Instead of telling Dex it was wrong to make Stina bald, Kesler just said Dex needs to be careful when messing with the Heks I’m dead.

Keefe and Sophie’s meet cute is unbeatable.

People are obsessed with Sophie’s eyes; it’s brought up every other page. If only they knew it’s because she’s part horse lmao

Sophie in alchemy is like Seamus in potions I’m weak

Sophie recovered an important memory but doesn’t want to share, so she does everything in her power to avoid hanging out with Biana for five weeks, and then when she does go to the Vackers’ house Alden doesn’t even ask her about her memory log. Sophie and I get anxious for no reason and avoid our problems the same way I swear

Sophie tells Edaline and Grady “I love you.” (pg 341), then they cancel her adoption! Like I already knew that happened, but it feels worse when you read the pain Sophie is going through.

I forgot how frickin stupid the Black Swan were with the messages and stuff, like ofc sophie’s not gonna be on your side wtf
