Kozelekisms
[From Sun Kil Moon @ NYC Town Hall 7.24.14. This is how I remember it, not a faithful transcription.]
"How are you guys doing? [Somebody from the audience screams: "Mark!" He sighs kind of exasperated.] You know that was rhetorical question, right? It's not like I wanna know your opinion or anything."
"My new record Benji is doing ok, at least by my standards. Now, a lot of young kids come to see my shows as they used to in the mid-90's because they read the Pitchfork review. Pitchfork is the only thing people seems to read these days. And 24-year-old girls come back stage now and they think that I'm fucking genius. And you wanna know why? Because Pitchfork told them. I used to fucking hate Pitchfork, but now I'm very grateful to them because my record is doing good."
"The thing that annoys me the most is when people ask me: 'Is it all true?' 'Is it all true?' 'Is it all true?' 'Is it all true?' Yep. Yes, there is a Red Lobster in Akron. Yes, I don't want my mom to die, I'd be very sad if my mom died. Yes, Ben Gibbard is my friend. He liked the song, by the way. My point is... I made it all up."
"[After people in the audience start asking for particular songs during the encore.] I'm 47 and I have seen really great concerts and really terrible ones. Great. The Doobie Brothers. Kiss. Terrible. Early Cat Power. Early Brian Jonestown Massacre. But it never ever would have occur to me to yell at them."
