In our recent class, We have discussed the controversy around birth rates and women. We cannot discuss the issue of birth without adding in birth control. you can also not discuss birth control without adding in abortion. All three issues have to be discussed together in order to fully understand the issues with birth rates in the world. In third world under developed countries, birthrates are higher because there is a lack of birth control and abortions. In more developed countries where birth control is available both birth rates and abortion rates are higher. Why is that? Why is there both high birth and abortion rates in places that offer these services? Why is that birthrate almost equal to those in third world countries where there is little to no birth control? I cannot answer this question, but I can offer a reasonable explanation based on my research and knowledge. All female organisms are created to reproduce. Women are the carriers of life. Biologically, our bodies were built for child birth whether you live in Brazil, or Asia. Generally speaking in America, women have the right to choose to either carry or abort the fetus. There are some women in america who have 19 children and don't believe in abortion, where as there are some women who have 3 or 4 abortions in their lifetime. So the rates of both births and abortions are high because 1 woman will have multiple births (4+) compared to 4 women having 1 abortion each. The numbers relatively balance out, yet they are climbing because of the availability of abortion and birth control. In american society, where there are multiple forms of birth control, (pill, shot, IUD, patch, implant, sponge, condom, ect..) there are still women who simply choose not to use it. They want multiple children and it is their right to, just as it is a woman’s right to get an abortion.
