Thanks for ten years of King's Quest!
Day 1 - Favorite Graham
Let's start this week long thing on the right foot by saying that, while all Grahams are great Grahams, the one that I found to be my favorite and wished a little we spent more time with is Prologue!Graham, the one that we get to first meet as he adjusts his adventuring cap before entering the famous well.
He's not king just yet... but definitely an established knight when we come along and I just really love that even if he doesn't say much, he has so much expression to him.
Also I'm a sucker for the entire cave surfing segment.
Day 6- favorite area
I have honestly been hoping this would be a prompt, because I really wanted to talk about the area with king Edward’s statue!!!
This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE PLACE in the entire game!! Both times I’ve played through ch 1 I find myself just lingering there listening to the wind and the bells. There are so many things that make this the best place, including but not limited to;
1-this is the place that represents the legacy of the king. Since we never directly meet Edward in the game, being here is as close as we get to seeing him, and knowing about his time as king. I don’t remember if we ever know exactly what the bells mean- but I want to believe it is one of the ways the kingdom shows their approval and love for the king in hanging them. The next time we are in this area is chapter 4, where we see the statue of Edward has been replaced with one of Graham- depicting his own legacy. (Why he doesn’t get bells is a mystery to me- but in this case I don’t think it has anything to do with the kingdoms approval- since he’s awesome.)
2-this is one of the only places where there the normal town music stops as soon as you enter, replaced by the soft sounds of the bells and wind. It creates such a peaceful, almost sacred atmosphere.
3-because of the peaceful nature of this area, it is easy to imagine Graham retreating here for leisure, or to meditate on a difficult decision(pondering what Edward might have done), or maybe to get away from palace chaos. It is very interesting how such a peaceful quiet place is right next to town, and has several main roads passing it.
4-it would be a FANTASTIC picnic spot(on that note I also love the area overlooking the castle where the star berries grow- for similar reasons)
This unique area definitely has my heart!
well, king's quest 2015 10 year anniversary week is over, and while i still don't have my art finished (i'm fighting for my life out here) i want to give a few quick words for the free-for-all
i genuinely don't know where i'd be without king's quest. i'm among the many that was introduced to it through steam train playing it, and i immediately got it for myself after watching the beginning.
it's no surprise that i'm very drawn to the classics, but i love both iterations very much. 2015 brought me into the series and it changed my life!! i honestly just don't get attached to things enough to ever want to engage with the fandom or make fanart for it, in general, but my love for king's quest ended up being so strong that it became the only exception. and i'm happy for it! i love the community here! even though i'm kinda reserved and not usually online engaging with much (especially this past year :x) i love to check back in when i can.
king's quest honestly has been a major source of inspiration, it's affected my art in major ways and has gotten me through a lot of difficult times. there's just too much to note!!
thanks for 10 years, everyone
Day 7- free space
