Tetsucabra is one of my favorite monsters… I miss the amphibian monsters. So I made my own a long time ago but never drew him up and showed it off.
This is Krakanari. A pretty simple blend between a crocodilian and a giant pixie frog. Its name comes from a mix between “crocodile” and “kaminari”, japanese word for “thunder”. Not thunder element, but booming thunder… As you can see, it has a subspecies, called the Molten Krakanari. The “Kraka” part of the name kinda works in two ways, because it also comes from “Krakatoa”, a caldera in Indonesia known for its catastrophic eruption. Let me know if you like this big bois.
Anyways, here’s more info:
NIckname: “Great Paratoad Quake Frog”
Classification: Amphibian
Location: Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste
Ailments: Tremors, Paralysis
Weaknesses: Thunder, Dragon
More Info: Krakanari are very large amphibians unique to the new world. They sleep in damp places for most of the day, only venturing out once every two days to feed on Aptonoth and Jagras. The Great Jagras leaders despise this and will get into violent battles with them. That said, it’s not exceptionally high on the food chain…
Krakanari generally like being alone and are very unhappy when there’s a hunter present. It will try to fight you immediately on sight. If you find yourself locked in a battle with this giant toad, expect two tricks. It will first emit a very loud and low-frequency bellow. This sound is so powerful, it quakes the very ground below. If that doesn’t immobilize you, it will discharge a large cloud of mist from underneath its belly to cause paralysis (much like a Paratoad). Once you’re unable to move, the Krakanari to slam you with its forelimbs or even its entire body…
NIckname: “Great Nitrotoad Volcano Frog”
Classification: Amphibian
Ailments: Tremors, Fireblight
More Info: The Elder’s Recess is a much harsher environment than the Ancient Forest and even the Wildspire Waste. Because of this, the Molten Krakanari has evolved harsher traits. Firstly, this toad only sleeps very little, as food is more scare here. It’s become much more aggressive, as it has to venture out for food more often. Secondly, its armor is much harder, thanks to lava reinforcing its scales. Lastly, its underside is colored similarly to the surrounding lava. It will lay belly-up in the ground and wait for Gastodons or a Dodogama to draw near before ambushing.
With all of these changes, expect the Molten Krakanari to bring a harder fight than its cousin. Its stronger, moves faster, jumps higher, and is harder to damage. It still retains its signature “Earthquake” move, but it no longer uses paralysis spray. It instead bursts really hot smoke and flame from underneath its scales. Face it, and be in for a scorching surprise…
