CHARACTER SOLIDIFYING MEME [x] ( accepting )
10. Is your character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual, slow-witted?
first of all, i love this question because i have so much to say about steve’s education or lack thereof. which is not to say that steve isn’t a smart man, he absolutely is, but he is not an educated one.
the thing about steve’s education is that he didn’t spend much time in school, which i’ll go into further in the next question. since he was little, he taught himself through books. he’s always loved historical novels and science fiction. he really loves books. even now when he’s 240 pounds of muscle, he spends his free time reading which is shown in catfa & catws.
but i think, his lack of formal education is something which steve has on his mind often. especially when he’s in a room with the likes of tony stark, reed richards, hank pym, etc. he went to art school & didn’t even finish it! so i think, in a lot of ways, his education is something that would get under his skin if someone were to point it out to use against him or even just make a joke out of.
but like i said, he’s a very smart man. he was a fast learner even before the serum enhanced his cognitive abilities. he’s bookish more than anything.
13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?
steve didn’t go to school often. if he wasn’t sick in bed, then he was staying home to help around the house, or later in his teenage years, working. he did, however, enjoy school & would have liked to have been able to attend school more often but it just wasn’t in the cards for someone in his situation. this is why he reads so much because that’s where he got most of his schooling rather than in a classroom.
as for schoolmates, steve had a small group of friends which was all he really needed. i borrow from 616, ults, & mcu canon to make his friend group bucky barnes, arnie roth, & gail richards. he would’ve kept a close group throughout his life.
32. How does your character react to stress situations? Defensively? Aggressively? Evasively?
depends on the situation. if it personally stressful like when natasha was asking him about peggy while they were investigating hydra in catws, then he’s definitely evasive. he has the worst, almost immature, habit of just walking away from things which piss him off. honestly, i’d say he’s all three of those things depending on the situation. i can think of examples where he was needlessly aggressive about some kind of stressful situation while also being defensive. steve rogers is not the perfect little sunflower people make him out to be. he can be incredibly bitter & childish about his anger. he often claims to be taking the moral high road when he’s actually just sticking his nose up to everything around him while closing himself off.
