hmm i think they mean people liked Rumple before that ep but then in Skin Deep, people absolutely loved him. The dearies and rumbellers of course.

Even then, that's not true for many people. 

In my own case, i would never have continued watching this show without him because I thought the Pilot wasn't all that great. And I completely and wholeheartedly connected with him in "Desperate Souls."
